A global eSIM is convenient when your journey crosses continents, but one purchase can cost more than several country plans. The useful comparison is the price of your actual route, the time before the data expires and whether you need one shared allowance.
Prices checked 26 September 2026. Horizon includes instant support and free hotspot sharing. Its Global 5 GB and 10 GB offers cost more than the Nomad, Airalo and Saily options checked here. This guide makes that difference clear and shows a lower-cost Horizon alternative for a USA–Japan trip.
Global prices: the same data, different validity
These are total data allowances, not daily amounts. The longer competitor validity is part of the offer:
- Horizon Global plans: 5 GB / 30 days €61.71; 10 GB / 30 days €123.23.
- Nomad Global: 5 GB / 30 days €34.85; 10 GB / 30 days €54.01.
- Airalo Global, fixed data: 5 GB / 60 days €31.50; 10 GB / 180 days €51.50.
- Saily Global: 5 GB / 60 days €30.49; 10 GB / 180 days €50.49.
For a route covered by each selected package and completed within 30 days, Saily has the lowest listed 5 GB and 10 GB purchase prices in this comparison. Horizon costs €31.22 more at 5 GB and €72.74 more at 10 GB. Nomad is also €69.22 cheaper than Horizon at 10 GB, with the same 30-day validity. Airalo and Saily's longer-validity packages can be useful across several trips, provided their remaining data and country coverage still fit.
These are price and package comparisons. We have not measured network performance or support response times. Horizon instant support is included, but it does not make the higher Global price disappear.
USA plus Japan: price the two stops separately
Suppose you expect to use 5 GB in the USA and 5 GB in Japan, with each visit fitting inside its own 30-day plan (Horizon prices rechecked on 29 September 2026):
- Horizon USA 5 GB / 30 days: €4.85.
- Horizon Japan 5 GB / 30 days: €12.46.
- Total for both purchases: €17.31.
That is €105.92 less than Horizon Global 10 GB, €36.70 less than Nomad Global 10 GB, €34.19 less than Airalo Global 10 GB and €33.18 less than Saily Global 10 GB at the checked prices (competitors on 26 September, Horizon on 29 September). All four fixed global products list the USA and Japan.
The cheaper country approach buys two separate 5 GB allowances. Unused USA data cannot become Japan data. If you need 8 GB in one country and 2 GB in the other, these two purchases do not provide that flexibility. Each also has its own validity; the two periods do not create one 60-day shared plan. Include another purchase if your route adds a third destination.

Check the whole itinerary before choosing Global
Horizon's checked Global package lists 110 destinations, including the USA, Japan, France, Turkey, the UAE, Australia and South Africa. The data allowance is shared across its included destinations. Crossing a border does not reset the allowance or restart the validity clock.
“Global” does not mean every country or territory. Check every overnight stop and any layover where you need mobile data. Do not infer coverage for a neighbouring island, an overseas territory or a country from the brand's overall destination count. Read the country list of the exact product being purchased.

A shared plan is most useful when you have many included stops or cannot predict the data split; it is not automatically the lowest-cost choice.
A year of validity is not a year of unlimited data
Horizon lists 1 GB / 365 days at €12.49 as well as 1 GB / 7 days at €12.49. Select the intended duration carefully. The annual option still contains only 1 GB in total. It can be a small backup allowance, not a substitute for a full year's everyday use.
For higher long-validity allowances, Saily lists 20 GB / 365 days at €59.49, and Airalo lists 20 GB / 365 days at €59.50. Horizon's 20 GB / 90 days costs €246.28. The competitor offers are both cheaper and valid longer; check their exact country lists before selecting them for repeat travel.
Installation and activation are different steps. For the quoted Horizon plans, check the installation instructions for first-connection activation; installing the profile and using its data are separate steps. Nomad states an activation deadline of 60 days after purchase; Saily states automatic activation after 180 days if not activated earlier. Check the selected provider's current instructions, especially when buying months ahead.
Unlimited phone data and hotspot needs
Holafly Global publishes 7 days of unlimited phone data at US$46.90 in its official duration table. It allows 1 GB per day of hotspot sharing and describes possible temporary operator fair-use speed reductions. Its paid trip coverage is separate from the Always On backup benefit. We keep this USD seven-day offer separate from the EUR fixed-data prices rather than treating different currencies, allowances and validity as equivalent.
Horizon allows free hotspot sharing from the purchased allowance, without a separate daily hotspot cap. Nomad's tethering guidance and Airalo's hotspot guidance make device and network compatibility relevant. Saily's technical details allow hotspot sharing without an additional sharing limit. With a fixed plan, laptop and phone usage consume the same total.
