Japan is a useful reminder that the cheapest small plan does not always lead to the cheapest larger bundle. For these larger allowances, Horizon is not the lowest-priced option. Its advantage is in the smaller 1 GB / 7-day comparison below, with instant support included. The table keeps the larger-bundle tradeoff visible.
Where Horizon’s small plan has a price advantage
Horizon’s 1 GB / 7-day Japan plan was €2.63. Nomad’s matching 1 GB / 7-day offer was €3.48, and Saily’s was €3.49. That is €0.85 below Nomad and €0.86 below Saily for the same allowance and validity. Airalo’s checked entry plan was 1 GB for 3 days at €4.00, so its duration is different.
The 1 GB choice is for a traveler whose usage fits a small pool: perhaps essential messages and route checks with most downloads handled on Wi-Fi. It is not a recommendation for a week of frequent video, large uploads or continuous hotspot use. If you are likely to exhaust it, start with the larger-plan totals above rather than assuming several small purchases will be better value.
The larger-plan result is different
Horizon’s 5 GB / 30-day plan was €12.46 and its 10 GB / 30-day plan was €24.75. Nomad, Airalo and Saily all displayed lower prices for those two matched allowances in this snapshot. Nomad’s €13.94 price for 10 GB was a public sale price, which is included here rather than comparing against its crossed-out amount.
Horizon includes instant support and hotspot on all plans. Those are reasons to consider the service, but they do not turn a higher-priced bundle into the cheapest one. This article does not claim measured support-speed or network-performance superiority over another provider.
Tokyo, Kyoto and an onward Asia trip
A Japan country plan covers the country listed in its product details; it does not automatically add another Asian stop. If you will also visit South Korea, Thailand or Singapore, compare the route against the live Asia-Pacific plan before paying for separate allowances. Save essential addresses, reservation details and a route map offline before a rail journey. An eSIM does not remove coverage gaps in tunnels or remote areas. You can keep your main SIM for your existing number while selecting the travel eSIM for mobile data, subject to your device’s dual-SIM support and your home operator’s call and SMS charges.
Choose by the whole trip
For genuinely light use over seven days, start by considering the 1 GB prices. For heavier use, compare a larger fixed allowance and unlimited options, including tethering limits. If a laptop will use the connection, estimate its data separately. How Holafly’s unlimited option compares
Holafly’s Japan product page published a 7-day unlimited plan at US$27.50 in its USD duration table. That is a different allowance, duration and currency from the fixed 30-day EUR offers above, so we do not calculate a percentage saving against it. The page specifies 1 GB per day for hotspot sharing, and says network fair-use measures can temporarily reduce speed.
