Horizon, Airalo, Holafly, Nomad and Saily compared for Japan
Popular Japan plans

A useful Japan eSIM comparison starts with two questions: how much data will you use, and how many days must it last? A cheap seven-day offer is not a substitute for a two-week plan, and unlimited phone data is not the same product as a fixed allowance.

Horizon catalog checked 23 October 2026. Editorial owner: Lurian Kasumaj.

Current country packages are listed below. Each row is a separate total data allowance and validity period; prices are in EUR before account discounts or credit. Follow the plan link for today's price before buying.

Horizon prices and related totals updated on 1 November 2026. Other providers’ quotes retain the research dates shown below.

Prices checked 9 October 2026. Horizon's Japan range has changed. Its current public entry plan is 5 GB for 15 days at €5.09; the former 1 GB/7-day and 5 GB/30-day offers are no longer the plans used in this comparison. The live cards above come from the current Japan catalog.

Matched offers: Horizon and Airalo

These pairs match both total data and validity. Prices are public euro prices without coupons, partner discounts or reward credit.

Saily and Nomad: compare the right duration and currency

Saily displayed 10 GB for 30 days at €15.99. Horizon's matching €9.99 package costs €6.00 less. Saily's 5 GB/30-day offer was €9.99, but Horizon's €5.09 offer lasts 15 days: do not treat those as matching durations.

Nomad displayed 5 GB/30 days at US$10 and 10 GB/30 days at US$16, with the latter marked as a sale price. We retain the original currency rather than declare a euro-price winner using an unspecified exchange rate. Check the currency and final amount at checkout.

For a very short stay with little data use, the lowest payment can be elsewhere: Saily listed 1 GB/7 days at €3.49 and Airalo 1 GB/3 days at €4.00. Both cost less upfront than Horizon's €5.09 entry plan, while providing less data and a shorter validity. Include those smaller allowances when comparing the amount you pay upfront.

Holafly: unlimited phone data is a different offer

Holafly's Japan page showed €46.90 for 15 days and €68.90 for 30 days, with unlimited phone data and 1 GB of hotspot sharing per day. Someone streaming heavily on their phone may value unlimited data. Someone sharing with a laptop should pay particular attention to the hotspot allowance.

We do not calculate an equivalent-product saving between those unlimited plans and Horizon's fixed 5 GB or 10 GB packages. Compare your expected use, the current terms and the total price together.

Which package fits your trip?

For maps, messaging and translation with large downloads kept on Wi-Fi, 5 GB can be a useful starting point. For a two-week route with frequent searches and photo uploads, 10 GB provides more room. These are planning examples, not usage guarantees. Cloud backups, video and tethered computers can change the budget quickly.

Horizon includes free hotspot sharing from the purchased allowance.

Horizon fixed-data plans have no throttling.

Actual reception and speed still depend on location, device and network conditions. The plans are data-only; ordinary calls and SMS on your home line follow your home operator's terms. Check device compatibility and install over reliable Wi-Fi before departure. Validity does not start until your Horizon eSIM first connects to a supported mobile network at your destination. Installing it does not start its validity.

Horizon refunds the full amount paid on request, including partly or fully used eSIMs, without a request time limit. See the refund policy. Support is available 24/7 in all languages with a guaranteed instant response; a response is not a promise of instant resolution or bank credit.
