Why Japan can feel phone-heavy

Prepare offline for stations and rural legs
Download the predictable parts before departure:
- Map areas for Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and any rural route.
- Japanese in a translation app that offers offline files.
- Rail and attraction tickets, hotel addresses and reservation confirmations.
- Music and shows for long journeys.
Google documents how to download areas in Maps and download languages in Translate. Offline Maps does not provide every live feature—public transport, walking detail and current disruptions may still need data—so use offline files as a safety net and mobile data for live decisions.
Turn off cloud-photo backup and social-video autoplay on the travel line. Apple says Low Data Mode restricts background use and automatic downloads on iPhone and iPad.
Choose the allowance and validity together
