Compare Colombia eSIM plans for Bogotá and its museums, Medellín and Guatapé, the walled city of Cartagena and the Tayrona coast beyond Santa Marta. Set the allowance against the number of days, then read the territory list and the tethering wording printed on the offer.
Colombia is a country you fly across more often than you drive across. The Andes arrive here as three separate ranges, and they set the height of everything: Bogotá stands at about 2,640 metres, Medellín at 1,495, and Cartagena and Santa Marta at sea level. A single trip usually touches all three. Bogotá to Medellín is roughly 240 kilometres in a straight line but eight to nine hours over the mountains against about fifty minutes in the air, and Bogotá to Cartagena is some 660 kilometres — an eighteen-to-twenty-hour drive almost nobody makes. Those same winding roads, the offshore islands and the roadless Amazon at Leticia are where a phone signal genuinely thins.

Install the Colombia profile at home over Wi-Fi, while the order confirmation is still on a screen you control rather than on the handset itself. The plan names the step at which it becomes the data line, so follow its wording rather than a habit carried over from another country. El Dorado sits about thirteen kilometres from central Bogotá; a taxi or rideshare runs thirty to forty-five minutes depending on traffic, and a TransMilenio feeder bus serves the airport. Save the first address and a map of the neighbourhood offline before you reach immigration, and keep the home line's data switched off unless paying for it is a choice you have made.

Bogotá sits at about 2,640 metres, and the altitude sets both the weather and the pace — roughly 8 to 19°C whatever the month. La Candelaria's colonial lanes hold the Museo del Oro and the Museo Botero within walking distance of one another. Cerro de Monserrate rises to a summit near 3,150 metres, reached by cable car or funicular, so a handset goes from the dense city network to a ridge above it in minutes. El Dorado airport is about thirteen kilometres from the centre.
eSIM de Bogotá: configúralo antes de volar →Cartagena · Guía de la ciudad
Cartagena stands at sea level on the Caribbean, hot and humid at roughly 24 to 32°C all year. The Ciudad Amurallada is the UNESCO-listed walled city, with the plazas and street art of Getsemaní just outside it and the seventeenth-century Castillo San Felipe de Barajas above. Rafael Núñez airport is only about three kilometres from the walls, ten to fifteen minutes by taxi. The Islas del Rosario are a boat day trip, where open water rather than terrain puts distance between a phone and the mainland.
eSIM de Cartagena: configúralo antes de volar →Medellín · Guía de la ciudad
Medellín lies at 1,495 metres in a valley known as the City of Eternal Spring, roughly 15 to 28°C throughout the year. Comuna 13 climbs the hillside on outdoor escalators, Plaza Botero sits in the centre, and Parque Arví is reached by cable car over the ridge. José María Córdova airport is not in the city: it stands at Rionegro, about thirty-five kilometres away in a separate valley, forty-five to sixty minutes on a mountain road. Guatapé and the El Peñol monolith make the usual day trip.
eSIM de Medellín: configúralo antes de volar →Santa Marta · Guía de la ciudad
Santa Marta works as a gateway more than a destination. Its historic centre is the base for Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona, whose coastal jungle beaches are reached on foot, and for the multi-day Ciudad Perdida trek inland; Minca sits in the coffee-farm hills directly behind the city. Simón Bolívar airport is about sixteen kilometres out, twenty to twenty-five minutes by taxi, and the coastal road from Cartagena covers some 230 kilometres in around four hours — the one leg most people drive.
eSIM de Santa Marta: configúralo antes de volar →Por qué Horizon
A first visit taking in Bogotá, Medellín and Cartagena usually runs ten to fourteen days, and nearly every leg between them is a flight rather than a drive, which makes the validity window matter more than any single day's use. Because temperature follows altitude here rather than the calendar, the interior barely changes through the year: roughly 8 to 19°C in Bogotá, 15 to 28°C in Medellín, 24 to 32°C at sea level. Rain is what moves — the Andean interior is wetter in April and May and again in October and November, while the Caribbean coast is driest from December to April. Check that the plan's territory list names Colombia itself, and do not assume it stretches to a neighbouring country.

Bogotá stands at about 2,640 metres, high enough that many arrivals feel it on the first day, so most itineraries start slowly rather than heading straight up Cerro de Monserrate, whose summit is near 3,150 metres. The wider point is that Colombia's cities sit at very different heights — Medellín at 1,495 metres, Cartagena and Santa Marta at sea level — so both what you pack and the order you visit them in follow from altitude rather than from the season.
Ten to fourteen days is the usual answer for all three, because the legs between them are flights rather than drives. Bogotá to Medellín takes about fifty minutes in the air against eight to nine hours by road; Bogotá to Cartagena is roughly 660 kilometres and an hour and thirty-five minutes flying; Medellín to Cartagena is about an hour and ten. Allow half a day around each flight and the itinerary stops feeling rushed.
Temperature is set by altitude rather than by month, so the cities barely change: Bogotá stays around 8 to 19°C, Medellín around 15 to 28°C, and Cartagena and Santa Marta around 24 to 32°C whenever you arrive. Rain is the variable. The Andean interior has two wetter spells, April to May and October to November, while the Caribbean coast is driest from December to April. December to March is the usual overall window, and it is also the Colombian holiday season, so Cartagena is busier then.
They suit different trips. Cartagena is at sea level and hot at roughly 24 to 32°C, putting the Ciudad Amurallada, Getsemaní, Castillo San Felipe de Barajas and the Islas del Rosario boat trips within reach, with Santa Marta and Tayrona about 230 kilometres along the coastal road, near four hours. Medellín is 1,495 metres up and mild all year, with Comuna 13, Plaza Botero, the Parque Arví cable car and the Guatapé day trip. Coast for beaches and colonial streets, valley for hills and city life.
Flying is the norm here rather than a luxury, because the interior cities are separated by three ranges of the Andes and the roads over them wind and lose time to the weather. Bogotá to Medellín is fifty minutes in the air and eight to nine hours by road; Bogotá to Cartagena is eighteen to twenty hours of driving. The coastal leg is the exception: Cartagena to Santa Marta is about 230 kilometres and four hours, and most people drive it.
Each is a different kind of add-on. Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona is entered from Santa Marta and its beaches are reached on foot, with Cabo San Juan del Guía sheltered while other coves there carry strong rip currents. Ciudad Perdida, the Lost City, is a multi-day trek inland. The Coffee Region around Salento and the Cocora Valley is a separate leg on mountain roads, and San Andrés is an island some 750 kilometres offshore, reachable only by air. All sit well outside dense city coverage.
Start with where you are standing. The passes between the interior cities, the jungle paths in Tayrona, the cable-car ridges above Bogotá and Medellín and anything offshore are places where a signal genuinely thins — terrain, not a fault. If it also fails in a city, reopen the setup guide the plan came with, confirm the Colombia profile is switched on and selected as the mobile data line, and toggle flight mode once. Check the territory list names Colombia, then send support the order reference and handset model.
