Bangladesh eSIM for Dhaka, the delta and the long beach

Compare Bangladesh eSIM plans for Dhaka's old city, the Sundarbans mangrove delta from Khulna, the Srimangal tea gardens and the Cox's Bazar coast. Set the allowance against a delta itinerary whose Sundarbans leg has no road at all, then read what the offer says about territory and hotspot use.

Bangladesh moves by water and by traffic, and both stretch a day out of shape. In Dhaka a short hop routinely takes an hour, so much of a visitor's time is spent moving slowly rather than arriving. Outside the capital the country opens into delta: the Sundarbans, the world's largest mangrove forest, has no road access at all, and trips run from Khulna or Mongla as multi-day boat cruises. Cox's Bazar strings its development along tens of kilometres of shoreline, so town and beach can be far apart. Load the route, the booking and the return before each leg, because the legs themselves are long.

How eSIM works in Bangladesh

Install the Bangladesh profile over Wi-Fi before you fly and keep the order details on another device. Follow the selected plan’s instructions for when to assign it to mobile data. Hazrat Shahjalal is about 17 kilometres north of Dhaka; taxis, ride-hailing cars and buses are options, and the airport also lists a shuttle to Airport Railway Station. Check its current stops and operating times before planning a train connection. Road transfers can take around fifty minutes or substantially longer in peak traffic, and sometimes twenty-five to thirty-five minutes at night. Keep your home line’s data off unless you have chosen to accept its charges.

Size it to your trip

Pick the profile closest to your trip. The estimate assumes normal use — maps, messaging, photos, a short call home.

As a rule of thumb, a 3–4 day city break runs on about 1–3 GB, a one-week trip on 3–5 GB, a two-week multi-country tour on 8–12 GB, and working on the road takes about 1 GB a day, so 15 GB or more for two weeks.

In total, a 10 GB data allowance covers roughly 3,300 shared photos, 167 hours of social media and browsing, 29 hours of video calls, 125 hours of music streaming, or about 2000 hours of maps and navigation. Messaging apps barely use data.

Important cities in Bangladesh

Dhaka · City guide

Dhaka

Dhaka holds Lalbagh Fort, Ahsan Manzil — the Pink Palace on the riverside — the Star Mosque and the Sadarghat river port, where the passenger boats leave. The traffic is the defining fact: short hops routinely take an hour, so a day here is planned around two or three fixed points rather than a list. That makes the sequence matter more than the distance. Load the day's route and any booking before setting out, since much of the time is spent moving rather than stopping.

Dhaka eSIM — set up before you fly

Why Horizon

Choose for the transfers and the dry season

Ten to fourteen days is the usual shape for Dhaka, the Sundarbans, Srimangal and the coast, and the allowance should follow the transfers rather than the towns. Dhaka to Cox's Bazar is about 423 kilometres by road, roughly eight hours by direct train or an hour by air; Dhaka to Khulna is around four hours by rail via the Padma Bridge; and there is no direct link between Srimangal and the coast at all. Season decides the rest: November to February is dry and cooler and the easiest for overland movement, while the June to October monsoon and the cyclone risk that peaks in late spring and again in autumn can disrupt ferries, boats and intercity roads, so those months need slack in the plan.

Frequently asked questions

How do I visit the Sundarbans?

By boat, because there is no road access to the delta at all. Trips leave from Khulna or Mongla and typically run as a two-night, three-day cruise into the mangroves, with the practical visiting window from mid-November to mid-February. Booking through an operator is the norm, and it is worth confirming exactly which forest permits and escorts the package includes rather than assuming. Carry the full itinerary offline: once the boat is inside the delta there is nothing to load it from.

Should I fly, take the train or the bus to Cox's Bazar?

It depends how much of the day you want to spend arriving. Dhaka to Cox's Bazar is about 423 kilometres by road; the direct train covers 551 kilometres of track in roughly eight hours, while the flight takes about an hour. The train is the scenic middle option and the flight is the one that preserves a day at the coast. Whichever you pick, remember the beach itself runs about 120 kilometres, so the transfer from the station or airport to a specific stretch of sand is a separate leg.

How do I get around Dhaka given the traffic?

Plan two or three fixed points a day rather than a list, because a short hop routinely takes an hour and the map badly understates it. Group things by area — Lalbagh Fort and the old city in one block, Ahsan Manzil and Sadarghat by the river in another — and travel between them at the least congested times you can manage. Airport transfers show the same pattern: allow roughly fifty minutes from Hazrat Shahjalal and considerably more at peak, though a night arrival can do it in twenty-five to thirty-five.

When is Saint Martin's Island open to visitors?

The season is restricted and the rules have changed more than once, so this is a case for checking current sources rather than an older account. What holds is the shape of it: visitor numbers to the coral island are capped, a ticketing and travel-pass system applies, and access runs by boat from the Cox's Bazar area. Confirm the current season, the pass requirement and the sailing before building days around it, and treat any itinerary that assumes open access as provisional.

When is the best time to travel in Bangladesh?

November to February. It is dry and cooler, overland movement is at its easiest, and it contains the practical Sundarbans window of mid-November to mid-February. The monsoon runs June to October with heavy rain and flooding, and cyclone risk peaks in late April to early June and again in October to November. Those conditions disrupt ferries, boats and intercity roads rather than merely making things wet, so an itinerary in those months needs genuine slack built into it rather than a tight sequence of connections.

Does a Bangladesh plan cover India?

Only when India is named on the plan's own destination list. It is the common pairing by a wide margin: Kolkata and West Bengal are reached via the Benapole and Petrapole crossing, and the Indian northeast via Akhaura and Agartala, with flights as the alternative. Nepal and Bhutan are usually added by air from Dhaka or Kolkata rather than overland. At each land crossing the handset leaves one national network for another, so read the coverage list rather than assuming a regional label covers the route.

No data after landing in Dhaka — what should I check?

Use terminal Wi-Fi to check the setup before your onward transfer. Open the guide supplied with your plan, confirm that the Bangladesh profile is enabled and selected for mobile data, then follow its roaming, network-selection and APN steps; restart only where instructed. If you intend to take a train, check the airport’s current shuttle connection to Airport Railway Station and the onward timetable. In the Sundarbans, local service may be unavailable, so download essentials before the boat journey.
