Use it when your itinerary stays inside a single destination and compare the available data allowances, validity periods, supported networks and prices. Each plan page lists its coverage and starting price. Confirm that your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked, then follow the plan's installation and activation instructions.
When a local eSIM is the right choice
Choose a local eSIM when your trip stays in one country. It can be a clearer fit than wider coverage because you compare plans built for that destination rather than countries outside your route. If you may cross a border, check a regional plan instead. A local plan only works in the destination and networks listed in its coverage details. Compare the total price, data, validity and hotspot or fair-use terms before choosing.
How much data you actually need
Data needs vary. Maps and messaging usually use less than video calls, streaming, cloud backups or tethering. Check your phone's recent mobile-data use and compare it with the length of your trip. If top-ups are offered for the plan, you can add data later. Confirm top-up availability and any new validity terms on the package page rather than assuming every plan supports the same options.
What to check before you buy
Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. Support can vary by model, sales region and carrier, so use the compatibility checker and look for an EID in your phone's settings before purchase. Install over reliable Wi-Fi and keep the QR code or manual activation details available. Check the package's activation window and validity rule: these can differ by plan, and installation is not always the event that starts validity.
Local eSIM questions
- Does a local eSIM work in neighbouring countries?
- A local plan works only in the destination and networks listed in its coverage details. If your itinerary includes another country, compare a regional plan that explicitly lists every stop.
- Can I keep my own number?
- Yes. A local eSIM gives you a separate data line, so your normal SIM stays active for calls and texts on your usual number. Your own carrier may still bill you for activity on that line, so many travellers switch its data off and leave calls on.
- When does the plan start counting down?
- The start rule depends on the package. Check whether validity begins at installation, activation or first connection, and follow the first-use deadline shown in the plan details.
- What if I run out of data mid-trip?
- Check whether the package supports a top-up. If it does not, choose another available plan for the destination and follow the installation instructions supplied with it.

Yes, when the selected plan lists multiple countries. Choose a regional or global plan, confirm every stop in its coverage details, and follow its network and setup instructions in each destination. Coverage, networks and profile reuse depend on the plan.
Will my phone work?
Many newer iPhone and Android models support eSIM, but the phone must also be carrier-unlocked. Check our supported devices page before you buy.
How much data do I need for a week abroad?

Don't delete it unless support asks you to. An eSIM profile usually can't be installed twice, so contact us if you remove it by mistake.
Can I keep my number?
Yes. Use Horizon for mobile data and keep your primary SIM active for calls and texts. Your carrier may still charge for activity on that line.
