A global eSIM provides one data plan for a broad, plan-specific list of destinations across several regions. It can suit long trips, multi-continent work travel or changing itineraries. Global does not mean every country: compare the included destinations, supported networks, data, validity and current price with your exact route before purchase.
Who a global plan is for
A global plan can fit frequent travellers, remote workers and multi-continent itineraries that include many covered destinations. One destination list and one plan can be easier to manage than comparing a new product at every stop. For a single-country or single-region trip, compare local and regional plans too. They may offer a different combination of data, validity, networks and price. Choose from the live details rather than the category label alone.
Global or regional — how to decide
Write down every country on your route, then compare the narrowest eligible regional plan with a global plan that includes them all. Check total price, data, validity, supported networks and fair-use terms. For a long trip, you can also compare a global plan for travel between regions with a separate country plan for a longer stay. The lower-cost option depends on the live packages and your expected use.
What to check before you buy
A global plan covers the destinations in its own list, not every country. Confirm each stop and the supported networks before purchase. Check the activation window, the validity period, whether data is shared across destinations, and any fair-use limits. Your exact phone model must also support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked.

- Does a global eSIM cover every country?
- Coverage is defined by the selected product, not by the word ‘global’. Open the current destination list and confirm every country or territory on your route before paying; treat a stop that is not listed as unsupported.
- How should I compare global and local plan prices?
- Compare the current checkout total for the global plan with the combined total of the country or regional plans needed for the same route. Match data allowance, validity, activation terms and included features. Which option costs less depends on the exact products.
- Can I use one global eSIM for several trips?
- It depends on the package and profile. When a plan runs out or expires, check the available top-up or new-plan options and follow the installation instructions shown in your account.
- Does it work for calls and texts?
- Our plans are data-only. On a compatible dual-SIM phone, you can keep your usual SIM enabled for calls and texts and select the eSIM for mobile data. Your home carrier may charge for activity on that line. Internet calling and messaging depend on the app, destination rules and available data service.

What is an eSIM and how does it work?
An eSIM is a digital SIM profile you download to a compatible phone. A travel eSIM provides mobile data without swapping a plastic SIM card. Check your exact device model and carrier lock, then follow the installation instructions supplied with your plan.
Can I use one eSIM in multiple countries?
Yes, when the selected plan lists multiple countries. Choose a regional or global plan, confirm every stop in its coverage details, and follow its network and setup instructions in each destination. Coverage, networks and profile reuse depend on the plan.
Will my phone work?
Many newer iPhone and Android models support eSIM, but the phone must also be carrier-unlocked. Check our supported devices page before you buy.
Does Horizon support personal hotspot and tethering?
Hotspot sharing is free on every Horizon plan. Horizon plans have no throttling. Enable Personal Hotspot on a compatible phone and keep Horizon selected for mobile data.
How much data do I need for a week abroad?
Maps and messaging generally use less data than streaming, video calls, cloud backups or tethering. Check your recent phone usage, allow for the length of your trip and confirm whether your chosen plan supports top-ups.
When should I install my eSIM?
We recommend installing your eSIM over Wi-Fi right before you leave. Your validity period will not start until your eSIM connects to a supported mobile network at your destination.
Can I top up without reinstalling?
Only when the selected plan supports it. Open My eSIMs to see eligible data, validity or destination options; availability and profile reuse depend on the plan.
What happens if I delete the eSIM?
Don't delete it unless support asks you to. An eSIM profile usually can't be installed twice, so contact us if you remove it by mistake.
Can I still use my WhatsApp and phone number for calls?
You can keep your existing WhatsApp number and use Horizon for mobile data. Calls and SMS on your original number need your usual SIM or eSIM to remain enabled on a compatible dual-SIM phone. Your usual carrier’s roaming charges may still apply to that line.
