Regional eSIMs

A regional eSIM uses one data plan across the countries listed in its coverage details. It can simplify a multi-country itinerary, but nearby countries are not automatically included. Check every stop, the supported networks, shared data allowance, validity and current price before purchase, then follow the plan's installation instructions.

When a regional plan beats several local ones

A regional plan is useful when one itinerary includes several covered countries. It keeps one data allowance and validity period across the destination list, which can simplify a rail trip, road trip or multi-country holiday. Compare it with separate country plans for the same route. The better option depends on current prices, data needs, validity and the exact countries included; a regional label does not guarantee every nearby country is covered.

What happens when you cross a border

Within the coverage area, your phone can connect to a supported network in each included country. Automatic selection often works, but a network or data-roaming setting may need to be changed according to the setup guide. The plan details explain whether data is shared across destinations. Validity does not start until your eSIM first connects to a supported network in a covered destination. Before departure, confirm every country on your route and save the troubleshooting instructions for offline access.

Choosing between regional and global

Start with your route. A regional plan can suit travel within one part of the world; a global plan can suit an itinerary that crosses several regions. Compare the exact destination lists, total price, data, validity and supported networks. The narrowest plan that covers every stop may be a good fit, but do not assume it is cheaper without comparing the live packages for your dates and needs.

Does my data reset in each country?
For plans with a shared regional allowance, usage draws from one balance across the destinations listed in that plan. Check the package details for how data and validity work; do not assume crossing a border resets the allowance.
Which countries does a regional plan cover?
Each plan lists its own coverage, and the lists differ between regions. Open the plan you are considering and check that every stop on your route appears before you buy — coverage is defined by the plan, not by geography.
Do I need to do anything at the border?
Often the phone selects a supported network automatically, but settings can vary by device and plan. Keep the eSIM enabled, follow the setup guide and use manual network selection if the troubleshooting instructions require it.
Can I add a country that isn't covered?
A country outside the coverage list requires a separate eligible plan. Check its installation details; do not assume it can be added to the same profile without another setup step.

What is an eSIM and how does it work?

An eSIM is a digital SIM profile you download to a compatible phone. A travel eSIM provides mobile data without swapping a plastic SIM card. Check your exact device model and carrier lock, then follow the installation instructions supplied with your plan.

Can I use one eSIM in multiple countries?

Yes, when the selected plan lists multiple countries. Choose a regional or global plan, confirm every stop in its coverage details, and follow its network and setup instructions in each destination. Coverage, networks and profile reuse depend on the plan.

Will my phone work?

Many newer iPhone and Android models support eSIM, but the phone must also be carrier-unlocked. Check our supported devices page before you buy.

Does Horizon support personal hotspot and tethering?

Hotspot sharing is free on every Horizon plan. Horizon plans have no throttling. Enable Personal Hotspot on a compatible phone and keep Horizon selected for mobile data.

How much data do I need for a week abroad?

Maps and messaging generally use less data than streaming, video calls, cloud backups or tethering. Check your recent phone usage, allow for the length of your trip and confirm whether your chosen plan supports top-ups.

When should I install my eSIM?

We recommend installing your eSIM over Wi-Fi right before you leave. Your validity period will not start until your eSIM connects to a supported mobile network at your destination.

Can I top up without reinstalling?

Only when the selected plan supports it. Open My eSIMs to see eligible data, validity or destination options; availability and profile reuse depend on the plan.

What happens if I delete the eSIM?

Don't delete it unless support asks you to. An eSIM profile usually can't be installed twice, so contact us if you remove it by mistake.

Can I still use my WhatsApp and phone number for calls?

You can keep your existing WhatsApp number and use Horizon for mobile data. Calls and SMS on your original number need your usual SIM or eSIM to remain enabled on a compatible dual-SIM phone. Your usual carrier’s roaming charges may still apply to that line.
