How do I choose a Costa Rica eSIM?

When does the Costa Rica eSIM start?

What should I download before road and park days?
Save the offline map, lodging pin, booking reference, shuttle contact and return plan while you are still in town or on reliable Wi-Fi. Mobile data can help with updates and driver messages where service is available, but a cloud-forest crossing, boat stage or national-park trail should not depend on a live page opening at the meeting point.
Are calls, SMS and hotspot included?
Costa Rica plans from Horizon are data-only. They do not provide a local number, ordinary cellular calls or SMS. WhatsApp and other internet calling apps use the same data allowance when service is available. Hotspot sharing is free on every Horizon plan. A compatible phone is required, and laptops or companions connected to it consume that one allowance.
Can I keep my home SIM active in Costa Rica?
On a compatible dual-SIM phone, keep the home line available for its number and set Horizon as the mobile-data line. Disable automatic cellular-data switching so the home SIM does not take over unexpectedly. Calls or messages handled by the home operator can still incur its roaming charges, so review that account before travel.
Costa Rica-only or a Latin America plan?
Choose the country plan when your data use stays in Costa Rica. The Latin America plan is the cross-border option for Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, El Salvador and Uruguay. It excludes Costa Rica’s neighbours Nicaragua and Panama, as well as Belize, Guatemala and Honduras. For any excluded stop, arrange another plan and save border details offline.
