Best eSIM for the Canary Islands: Spain plans and prices compared

The Canary Islands are part of Spain and share its mobile country code, so their networks are Spain's networks and the product to compare is a Spain eSIM. Airalo is the exception among the five providers here: it also sells a separate Canary Islands eSIM. Horizon's Canary Islands eSIM page explains how Horizon's Spain plan works on the islands.

Prices checked 3 November 2026. Horizon includes instant support and free hotspot sharing; current prices and availability are on the linked plan pages.

Which eSIM fits which trip

  • Most trips: a Spain eSIM with a fixed allowance, sized to your stay with the prices that follow.
  • Unlimited data: Holafly sells only unlimited plans for Spain, so it fits if unlimited is what you want. Saily, Airalo and Nomad list unlimited plans too; Horizon sells none for Spain.
  • Nomad: its Spain page says coverage may not include overseas territories, so confirm the Canary Islands with its support before buying.

Matched fixed-data prices

  • Horizon: 5 GB / 30 days €2.48; 10 GB / 30 days €4.76.
  • Nomad: 5 GB / 30 days €8.06; 10 GB / 30 days €12.54.
  • Airalo Spain eSIM: 5 GB / 30 days €8.50; 10 GB / 30 days €13.00.
  • Saily: 5 GB / 30 days €8.99; 10 GB / 30 days €13.99.
  • Airalo Canary Islands eSIM: 5 GB / 30 days €9.50; 10 GB / 30 days €14.50.

At 5 GB / 30 days the next listed price after Horizon's €2.48 is Nomad's €8.06, €5.58 more. At 10 GB / 30 days the next listed price after Horizon's €4.76 is Nomad's €12.54, €7.78 more. This is a comparison of the displayed package totals; it does not establish better signal or identical coverage.

Does a Spain eSIM work in the Canary Islands?

For Horizon's Spain plan, the record is plain:

  • Spain has one mobile country code, 214, for its whole territory. The Canary Islands do not have one of their own.
  • The plan lists two networks, Vodafone Spain and Movistar Spain, and the catalog flags 4G/LTE, 5G and hotspot for both.
  • The plan permits those networks under Spain, with no separate Canary Islands entry: Vodafone Spain on the network codes 214-01 and 214-06, Movistar Spain on 214-07.
  • Both operators run networks on the islands. Telefónica's 2025 Canary Islands profile reports 4G for 99% of the islands' population and 5G for 95%; Telefónica is the company behind Movistar. Vodafone launched commercial 5G in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in March 2021, and in summer 2024 it reported 5G in 34 coastal municipalities on the islands.

Those are operator figures, not field tests. Coverage and signal vary by place on every network.

The other providers' pages put it differently:

  • Holafly says its Spain eSIM serves the mainland, the Balearics and the Canary Islands, and its FAQ answers yes to the Canary Islands question. It lists Orange, Movistar, Vodafone and Yoigo.
  • Saily sells its Spain plans on a Canary Islands page and has no separate island product. It names no network.
  • Airalo sells its Canary Islands eSIM on Orange, at €1.00 more than its Spain eSIM for 5 GB / 30 days and €1.50 more for 10 GB. Its Spain page also names Orange; we found no mention of the islands there.
  • Nomad's Spain page names Movistar and Orange, does not mention the islands and says coverage may not include overseas territories.

Short stays: 7-day plans

Horizon's 7-day plans cost the same as its 30-day plans of the same size: 5 GB for 7 days at €2.48 and 10 GB for 7 days at €4.76. A stay that might stretch loses nothing on the 30-day plan.

Airalo's Canary Islands eSIM lists 5 GB for 7 days at €8.50 and 10 GB for 7 days at €13.50, against €7.50 and €12.00 for its Spain eSIM. Saily and Nomad list no fixed 5 GB or 10 GB plan shorter than 30 days.

Winter stays and bigger allowances

At 20 GB / 30 days, Horizon lists €9.36, against €18.50 for Airalo's Spain eSIM, €18.81 at Nomad, €20.49 at Saily and €21.00 for Airalo's Canary Islands eSIM.

At 50 GB / 30 days, Horizon lists €23.11, against €31.35 at Nomad, €36.00 for Airalo's Spain eSIM and €41.50 for its Canary Islands eSIM. Saily lists no fixed plan above 20 GB.

Horizon's 50 GB plan for 180 days costs the same €23.11, which suits a winter season on the islands. Validity does not start until your eSIM first connects to a supported mobile network at your destination.

Unlimited data and hotspot

Horizon sells no unlimited Spain plan. Every Horizon plan includes free hotspot sharing from the same allowance. Horizon fixed-data plans have no throttling.

Holafly's Spain product page sells unlimited data only, with no fixed plan. With the site set to euros, its trip picker priced 7 days at €22.90 and 30 days at €61.91; its USD duration table lists US$24.50 for 7 days and US$66.50 for 30 days. Holafly allows 1 GB a day of hotspot sharing.

Other 7-day unlimited plans were listed at €20.49 at Saily, €21.50 for Airalo's Canary Islands eSIM and €22.39 at Nomad. For 30 days, Airalo's Canary Islands eSIM lists unlimited data at €54.50 and Saily at €56.99, against Holafly's €61.91; Nomad's unlimited plans stop at 10 days.

Unlimited plans are a different product, so we put no price difference on them. Unlimited handset data may suit heavy phone use; it does not always mean unlimited tethering, so check the hotspot terms.

Do you need an eSIM in the Canary Islands at all?

Check your own plan first. The EU Roaming Regulation applies within the Union including its outermost regions, and the Canary Islands are one of them (BEREC's roaming guidelines, BoR (22) 174, paragraph 7; Article 349 TFEU). A home plan from an EU or EEA operator therefore normally roams at domestic prices on the islands, within that operator's fair-use policy.

Plans from the UK and most other countries outside the EU and EEA are not covered by those rules: check what your operator charges for Spain and whether it treats the Canary Islands like the mainland.

A separate data plan helps when:

  • your home plan charges for data in Spain, or its allowance is small for maps, photos and video calls;
  • you are staying for months and your operator's fair-use policy may limit long stays abroad;
  • you want hotspot data for a laptop or tablet.

Horizon plans are data-only, so calls go through apps such as WhatsApp, Viber or FaceTime. Your home line can stay on for ordinary calls and texts, at your home contract's charges. For more, see when EU roaming is enough.

Island hopping, mountains and the sea

One Spain plan is enough for a trip across several islands: the allowance and validity are the same whether you are on Tenerife, La Palma or Fuerteventura. On any network, signal can weaken on high ground, in deep ravines and on the open sea between islands.

Before a ferry crossing, a flight or a mountain day, download offline maps and keep tickets, boarding passes and your accommodation address on the phone. If Tenerife is on the route, our Tenerife in December guide covers the weather, where to stay and planning a Teide day.

Mainland Spain, Madeira and Morocco

Because the plan's coverage is Spain, the same plan also works on the mainland, for example on a stopover in Madrid or Barcelona. For a city break, see the Spain eSIM comparison; its prices were checked in September 2026.

Madeira belongs to Portugal, so a Spain plan does not include it. If the trip adds Madeira or mainland Portugal, compare Horizon's Europe plan and check that Portugal is on its country list. Morocco is not on Horizon's Europe list.

Instant support with your Horizon plan

Horizon includes instant support for setup and connection questions. Use Horizon support if you need help installing the eSIM, selecting it for mobile data or understanding the plan before you travel.

Before buying, check device compatibility and that your phone is unlocked, and review the live Spain plans for the current price and coverage. The installation guide walks through setup over Wi-Fi before you fly.

How the prices were checked

This is a Horizon-authored comparison. Research date: 3 November 2026. Editorial owner: Lurian Kasumaj. We read each provider's official product page and Horizon's live catalog from a Kosovo connection in a desktop browser. Fixed-plan prices are public quotes with the same total data and 30-day validity unless stated, recorded in EUR and never converted. Horizon, Airalo and Saily showed EUR; Nomad showed US dollars by default for our connection, so we set its own currency selector to EUR. Holafly's EUR totals come from its own trip-duration picker with the site set to EUR (9 to 15 November for 7 days, 9 November to 8 December for 30 days); its duration table is quoted in its published US dollars. No sale label was shown on any quoted plan.

Account rewards such as Saily credits, subscriptions, coupons and first-order discounts are excluded, as is Horizon's one-time promotional plan. Prices can change after this check; the linked product page and checkout take precedence. This research compares published offers, not network performance, signal or support response times.
