In Mauritius, resort Wi-Fi and mobile data often do different jobs. The resort connection can handle a large backup; mobile data helps when you leave for a drive, send a pickup location or check an outing. Plan for the part of the holiday that happens beyond the hotel.

Match the data to the holiday
For a stay based near Grand Baie, mobile data can cover directions, restaurant arrangements and messages about the drive back. In Port Louis, save the place you intend to visit and the meeting point for your return. Around Le Morne or on inland outings, keep maps and booking details downloaded rather than assuming a continuous signal.
A couple sharing one phone's hotspot should count both people's use. Horizon includes free sharing on every plan, but the connected devices use the same allowance. Decide whether video calls and uploads will use mobile data or wait for a dependable Wi-Fi connection.
An eSIM does not mean you must abandon your usual number. Keep the home SIM installed where your device supports that arrangement, select the travel eSIM for mobile data, and check the home operator's charges before using its calling, texting or roaming services.
Resort stay, remote work or local SIM?
Someone checking maps on occasional outings needs a different allowance from someone working from a laptop. Estimate the large tasks first: video meetings, cloud synchronisation and operating-system downloads. Then choose validity covering the last transfer as well as the hotel nights.
For a long stay or a local-number requirement, compare the current offers from local operators and verify their visitor registration process. A travel data package should not be assumed to include ordinary calls or a Mauritian number.
Mauritius and Réunion are separate coverage decisions
Do not assume the two islands share a package because they are often discussed together. Horizon's current Africa selection includes Réunion but excludes Mauritius. A Mauritius country package likewise does not imply Réunion coverage. Check both destinations explicitly or buy supported country additions on an eligible installed eSIM through My eSIMs.
