A ski week that crosses a border asks one thing of a data plan before its price: every country on the trip has to be on its list, Switzerland included. Horizon's Europe eSIM lists Austria, Switzerland, France and Italy, and so do the Europe plans from Airalo, Saily, Nomad and Holafly that we checked. For 10 GB that lasts the week, Horizon charged €7.27, against €20.60 at Nomad, €24.00 at Airalo and €31.99 at Saily.
Prices checked 3 November 2026. Every figure is the price each provider's own page showed that day, in euros. Coupons, subscriptions, credits and first-order discounts are left out. Horizon is our own store, so each source is linked for you to check.
Is Switzerland on the plan?
Switzerland is in neither the EU nor the EEA, so the EU's roaming rules do not reach it, and a plan sold as "Europe" can still leave it out. Read the list before the price. On 3 November all five lists had all four countries:
| Plan | Austria | Switzerland | France | Italy |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Horizon Europe | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Airalo Eurolink | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Saily Europe | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Nomad Europe | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Holafly Europe | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
The border runs through some ski areas as well. The Matterhorn Ski Paradise joins Zermatt in Switzerland with Breuil-Cervinia in Italy, the Portes du Soleil spans France and Switzerland, and the Silvretta Arena links Ischgl in Austria with Samnaun in Switzerland. Near a border a phone can join a network on the other side, so on these slopes a plan that lacks one of the two countries leaves a gap.
Data for a ski week, matched
Each cell is the provider's smallest price for that allowance on a plan that lasts at least seven days.
| Provider | 5 GB | 10 GB | 20 GB |
|---|---|---|---|
| Horizon | €3.72, 30 days | €7.27, 30 days | €14.37, 30 days |
| Nomad | €15.67, 30 days | €20.60, 30 days | €24.18, 30 days |
| Airalo | €17.50, 7 days | €24.00, 7 days | €43.50, 15 days |
| Saily | €17.49, 30 days | €31.99, 30 days | Not sold |
Horizon has the lowest figure in every column. Nomad's 20 GB price was a sale price, shown beside a list price of €33.14. Saily's next size above 10 GB was 50 GB for 90 days at €85.49.
Airalo's 5 GB and 10 GB prices are for 7-day plans. For a trip of more than seven days, its next option is 15 days: €18.00 for 5 GB and €26.00 for 10 GB. The Horizon, Nomad and Saily plans in the table last 30 days, long enough for the drive home as well.
Unlimited data by the day
Horizon's Europe plan sells fixed allowances only. Airalo, Saily and Nomad sell unlimited Europe data for a set number of days as well, and Holafly's Europe plan is unlimited only, which is why it is not in the table above. Each has a daily limit in its terms:
| Plan | 5 days | 7 days | 10 days | Daily terms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Saily | €16.99 | €23.99 | €31.99 | 5 GB a day, then up to 1 Mbps |
| Nomad | €17.02 | Not sold | €30.45 | 2 GB a day, then 1 Mbps |
| Airalo | €18.00 | €25.00 | €32.50 | 5 GB a day, then 1 Mbps |
| Holafly | €18.50 | €25.50 | €34.90 | Hotspot sharing up to 1 GB a day |
Unlimited suits a week of video on the phone. For a laptop in the chalet, read the daily limits first: past them, Saily, Nomad and Airalo cap the speed at 1 Mbps, and Holafly caps what the phone can share.
How much data a ski week uses
Most of a ski day asks little of the phone: the lift and weather apps, the avalanche bulletin, the piste map, messages to the group and photos. Video moves the total, along with anything shared to a laptop. As a rough guide, 5 GB suits a week if video waits for the hotel Wi-Fi, and 10 GB or more suits a week of posting clips or working in the evenings. Automatic photo and video backup is the usual reason an allowance runs out early, so set it to Wi-Fi only.
Reception is a separate question from the allowance. Coverage depends on local networks, and on a glacier, in a high side valley or inside a gondola, reception may vary or drop on any plan. Download the piste map and the way back before you go up, and agree a meeting point instead of relying on a message.
When your home plan covers part of the trip
If your phone contract is from an EU or EEA country, or since 1 January 2026 from Ukraine or Moldova, EU roaming rules generally let you use your domestic allowance in Austria, France and Italy, within your operator's fair-use terms. Switzerland is the gap. For the days on the Swiss side, a Switzerland eSIM adds the missing country: 5 GB for 30 days was €2.54 on 3 November.
With a contract from the UK, Switzerland or another country those rules do not cover, your own operator sets the roaming terms in each country you visit. Check its daily charges before you rely on it.
One resort in one country
If the whole week is at one resort in one country, that country's plan costs less than the Europe plan. Horizon's prices on 3 November, all for 30 days:
| Country plan | 5 GB | 10 GB |
|---|---|---|
| Austria | €2.90 | €5.61 |
| Switzerland | €2.54 | €4.91 |
| France | €2.39 | €4.61 |
| Italy | €2.45 | €4.72 |
Any two of these together cost more than one Europe plan of the same size, so a week that crosses a border, or a ski area shared by two countries, is where the Europe plan fits.
Hotspot, validity and setup
Hotspot sharing is free on every Horizon plan. Horizon fixed-data plans have no throttling. A laptop or a second phone draws on the same allowance; it does not get one of its own.
Validity does not start until your eSIM first connects to a supported mobile network at your destination. Install it at home over Wi-Fi with the installation guide, then switch the line on at your destination. Check device compatibility first, and that the phone is not locked to your home network.
Horizon's plans are data-only: no local number, calls or SMS. Turn on data roaming for the Horizon line only. Your home carrier may still charge for calls, texts or data on its own line.
Support and refunds
Horizon offers 24/7 human support in all languages, with guaranteed instant replies. Contact support with setup or plan questions.
We always refund the full amount you paid when you request it, whether your eSIM is unused, partly used or fully used. There is no time limit for requesting a refund. The refund policy explains how a refund is returned.
How we checked
On 3 November 2026 we opened each provider's Europe page from a Kosovo connection and recorded the prices shown. Airalo, Saily and Holafly displayed euros. Nomad's page displayed US dollars by default; the euro figures here are the ones its own currency menu showed. Nomad also sells a second, more expensive Europe plan with a different list: it adds Turkey, Serbia and Monaco and leaves out Poland and Gibraltar. The tables use the plan Nomad shows first.
Horizon's figures are its regular prices on the Europe plan page and its country plan pages, with promotions left out. Prices change, so check the current total on each site before you buy.
