Airalo cost less than Horizon on both matched euro tiers. If price is your main criterion, that matters. Horizon includes free hotspot sharing and lets eligible customers add supported packages to an installed eSIM; compare those features with each alternative's current terms, rather than treating the price difference as a coverage or quality ranking.
The figures are public retail observations, excluding rewards, coupons and subscriptions. Unlimited offers are a separate comparison: their duration, fair-use and sharing terms need to be read before comparing them with a fixed pool.
Mainland, Zanzibar and the days between
For Dar es Salaam, mobile data is useful for confirming a transfer and finding the correct hotel or meeting entrance. For the northern circuit, your operator's departure time and meeting point matter more than an ambitious allowance. Save those instructions before leaving your accommodation.
In Zanzibar, keep the airport or ferry pickup, the first night's address and your host's contact available offline. A country listing is not evidence that every beach property, room or boat crossing has reception. Check the selected package's territory and network information and ask the accommodation about its actual connection options. Use the Tanzania Tourism Board to plan destinations and transfers; check operating details with the service you book.
Do large backups on a dependable connection. A day with almost no browsing can still consume substantial mobile data if the phone uploads every photograph automatically. Turn off unwanted background transfers before a safari departure.
Which kind of SIM fits your visit?
A travel eSIM is useful when you want to prepare your data line before arrival and keep your usual SIM installed. You need an unlocked eSIM-compatible device and a working connection for the initial installation. Horizon's validity does not start until the eSIM first connects to a supported network in Tanzania, so installing before you travel costs no days; with another provider, check when validity starts, because purchase, installation and activation are not always the same event.
A local SIM may be more suitable for a longer stay or a local-number requirement. Verify the operator's current registration and visitor terms directly. Do not assume a data-only travel package includes ordinary calls, SMS, a Tanzanian number or local mobile-money access. WhatsApp and similar apps use data and serve a different purpose.
Continuing to Kenya on one eSIM
A Tanzania country allowance does not become valid in Kenya when you cross the border. Horizon's current Africa regional selection includes neither country.
