“I used the Horizon Balkans eSIM on a recent trip. The best part was not having to think about buying a new SIM every time I crossed a border. I used it for maps, WhatsApp, checking hotels, finding restaurants, and looking up beaches and places to visit. The package covers Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia and I added Kosovo eSIM to the same order. I would use it again for another trip through the Balkans”

“The eSIM worked perfectly during my trip around Europe. It was very easy to install, connected as soon as I arrived, and the internet was fast and reliable everywhere I went. It made travelling much easier because I did not need to buy local SIM cards. Very convenient and worth the price. I would definitely use it again.”

A Croatia eSIM is a data-only plan that loads onto your phone before you fly, so you connect the instant you arrive. Land at Zagreb's Franjo Tuđman Airport, walk past the SIM kiosks, and you're already online on local networks. Your plan rides on Croatia's mobile carriers, Telemach (5G) and A1 (5G), giving you fast data the moment you reach the terminal. Skip the roaming charges your home provider would tack on. Pull up maps to the city, message family that you've touched down, and call a ride before your luggage even reaches the carousel.

Which eSIM is best for Croatia?

Croatia is an EU member, so a phone plan from the EU or EEA already roams here under Roam Like At Home and a travel eSIM mainly earns its place for visitors arriving from outside that area. After that, the route decides more than the number of cities. The old coastal road between Split and Dubrovnik passes through the Bosnian town of Neum, which puts two extra border crossings and a country your Croatia plan does not cover in the middle of the drive; the Peljesac Bridge, open since 2022, keeps the same journey inside Croatia. Pick the plan around where you sleep and how you travel between beaches, then compare the same allowance and validity.

Horizon sells Croatia eSIMs. Check your existing roaming first — it may already be enough — then compare our live plan against others on the same coastal route.

  • Zagreb and Pula

Zagreb's upper town, a tram ticket and a table booked for the evening use very little; Pula and the Istrian hill towns add a rental car, parking apps and a hotel entrance that is easier to find as a pin.

  • Zadar and the beach weeks

A seafront apartment, the sea organ at sunset and a day out towards the Kornati islands push photographs and uploads well above a city break. Hotel Wi-Fi usually absorbs the evenings.

  • Dubrovnik and the drive down

Cars cannot reach most old-town hotels, so save the gate and the stair name offline before arriving. If the plan continues into Bosnia and Herzegovina or Montenegro for a day trip, each one needs its own line on the destination list.

Zagreb

A Zagreb eSIM keeps you oriented as you climb between the Upper Town (Gornji Grad) and the streets below. Use mobile data to find your way to Ban Jelačić Square, read up on the cathedral before you step inside, and stay connected as you wander. With data on from arrival, you can check tram times and message friends without hunting for café Wi-Fi.

Preguntas frecuentes

Which mobile networks does the Croatia eSIM use?

Your Croatia eSIM connects to local carriers Telemach (5G) and A1 (5G). Where 5G is available your phone uses it automatically, and it falls back to fast 4G elsewhere, so you get strong data across city centres and good coverage along the coast.

Will I have coverage on the islands and ferry routes?

Coverage is strong in island towns and around harbours, so checking ferry times and messaging works well. Out on open water along the Adriatic, between ports like the routes to Hvar, Brač or Korčula, signal can come and go, so it's smart to download anything you need before you sail.

How is the signal in the national parks?

In and around towns you'll have reliable data, but Croatia's national parks like Plitvice and Krka have deep canyons and remote stretches where signal is variable. Save your offline maps and any tickets or directions before you go, then reconnect once you're back near a town.

I'm doing a wider Balkan or EU trip, is this the right plan?

This is a Croatia-only plan, ideal if your whole trip stays inside the country. If you're crossing into neighbouring Balkan countries or touring several EU stops, a regional eSIM that covers multiple countries will serve you better than a single-country plan.

When should I set up the eSIM before landing in Zagreb?

Install it at home while you still have Wi-Fi, ideally the day before you travel. That way it's ready to switch on the moment you land at Zagreb's Franjo Tuđman Airport, and you avoid setting things up on airport Wi-Fi after a long flight.

Can I keep my own number and use a hotspot in Croatia?

Yes. The eSIM is data-only, so your usual number stays active for calls and texts over your home line while the eSIM handles internet in Croatia. You can also share that data as a personal hotspot to a laptop or tablet, handy for a quiet evening in coastal towns.
