Mali eSIM for essential travel

Choose mobile data for a necessary stay in Mali, with validity and allowance matched to confirmed arrangements.

A necessary visit may centre on a family or work address in Bamako, while confirmed arrangements in Kayes or Mopti need their own saved contacts. Pick a Mali plan for the full stay and keep addresses, meeting notes and documents available offline. The country listing does not promise a connection at every place.

How eSIM works in Mali

Install the eSIM over reliable Wi-Fi before departure, then leave its line switched off until you are in Mali. Select Horizon for mobile data there and enable data roaming on that line. Check Mali validity before purchase: it starts with the first successful connection to a supported network in the country. You may keep a home SIM active in a compatible dual-SIM phone, but its provider may charge for roaming.

Pick a destination, data allowance and validity period.

  2. Install your eSIM

Scan the QR or auto-install in the app — no physical SIM.

  3. Land & connect

Data activates on first connection at your destination.

Size it to your trip

Pick the profile closest to your trip. The estimate assumes normal use — maps, messaging, photos, a short call home.

As a rule of thumb, a 3–4 day city break runs on about 1–3 GB, a one-week trip on 3–5 GB, a two-week multi-country tour on 8–12 GB, and working on the road takes about 1 GB a day, so 15 GB or more for two weeks.

In total, a 3 GB data allowance covers roughly 1,000 shared photos, 50 hours of social media and browsing, 8.8 hours of video calls, 38 hours of music streaming, or about 600 hours of maps and navigation. Messaging apps barely use data.

Why Horizon

Plan around confirmed details

A Mali eSIM can support messages, directions and essential files without changing a physical SIM. Match the allowance to necessary use rather than assuming streaming, and cover every day in the country. This is a data-only product with no local phone number; calls and texts need an internet app.

Frequently asked questions

What should I save for Bamako arrival?

Save the precise arrival point, first address, contact name, building entrance and essential documents offline. Keep them available before switching on the Mali eSIM.

How should I plan a longer family stay?

Choose validity for every night plus the arrival and departure days. Compare the current allowance with regular messages, app calls and any files you expect to share.

What if Kayes or Mopti is included?

Use only already confirmed arrangements. Save that city's accommodation, meeting point and contact separately, and include all its days in validity without assuming transport or connectivity.

Can I share data for work files?

Yes. With a Mali plan, hotspot is free and Horizon does not throttle it. A compatible phone is required, and the laptop or other device uses the same data allowance.

Does it include Senegal or Côte d’Ivoire?

No. This Mali plan does not include Senegal or Côte d’Ivoire. Choose a separate suitable plan for each additional country on the confirmed itinerary.

Does the country listing ensure every connection?

No. It shows that the product is intended for use in Mali, but local connection conditions can vary. Keep essential addresses, contacts and documents available offline.

Can I keep my WhatsApp and phone number with the Mali eSIM?

Yes. WhatsApp stays linked to your usual number and runs on the eSIM's data. On a dual-SIM phone, your usual SIM can stay on for ordinary calls and texts. Your home carrier may charge for calls, texts or data on that line, so turn off data roaming there.

Does the Mali eSIM include calls and texts?

No. Horizon plans are data-only, with no phone number for calls or texts. Use apps such as WhatsApp or FaceTime over the eSIM's data, or keep your usual SIM on for ordinary calls and texts.

Do I need to turn on data roaming for the Mali eSIM?

Yes. A travel eSIM connects to local networks as a roaming line, so turn on data roaming for the Horizon eSIM when you arrive. The plan is prepaid, so Horizon does not bill you after checkout. Keep data roaming off on your usual SIM to avoid charges from your home carrier.

What happens if I run out of data on the Mali eSIM?

You can buy more. If your plan supports a top-up, My eSIMs shows the data you can add to the same eSIM. If it does not, buy another Mali plan and install it the same way.

Will my phone work with the Mali eSIM?

It will if your phone supports eSIM and is not locked to your home carrier. Many recent iPhone and Android models do, but some regional versions do not, so check your exact model on the supported devices page before you buy.

See supported devices
Will Horizon slow down my data?

No. Horizon fixed-data plans have no throttling. There is no daily limit that slows you down, so you can use your whole plan in one day if you need to. Your speed depends on the local network, your signal and how busy the network is. When your data allowance is used up, the plan stops rather than slowing down.

Can I get a refund if I already used some data?

Yes. We always refund the full amount you paid when you request it, whether your eSIM is unused, partly used or fully used. There is no time limit for requesting a refund.
