Pakistan eSIM for the Punjab cities and the Karakoram north

Compare Pakistan eSIM plans for Islamabad under the Margalla Hills, for the Walled City of Lahore, for Karachi on the Arabian Sea and for the Hunza and Skardu valleys. Set the number of travel days against the data, then read the territory wording and the tethering rules the offer itself prints.

Pakistan is really two trips joined by a domestic flight. The Punjab plains hold Islamabad and Lahore, about 375 kilometres apart on a flat four to five hour motorway that is also served by rail. Karachi sits roughly 1,035 kilometres further south on the Arabian Sea — an hour and a quarter by air, well over twelve hours by road. Then the ground changes: the Karakoram Highway climbs towards Hunza through deep valleys and landslide-prone sections, with long stretches far from any town. That contrast, more than the plan, decides what a handset can reach on a given afternoon.

How eSIM works in Pakistan

Install the Pakistan profile before you fly, over a Wi-Fi connection you already know, and keep the QR code and the order mail on a second device or on paper. The plan states which step makes it the phone's data line — take the wording from there. Islamabad International is about 25 kilometres southwest of the city, 35 to 45 minutes by taxi; Allama Iqbal in Lahore is roughly 14 kilometres out, 25 to 30 minutes; Jinnah International is 14 to 19 kilometres east of central Karachi, about 40 minutes by taxi or 50 by bus. Save the first address offline, and treat the everyday line as a separate decision.

Pick a destination, data allowance and validity period.

  2. Install your eSIM

Scan the QR or auto-install in the app — no physical SIM.

  3. Land & connect

Data activates on first connection at your destination.

Size it to your trip

Pick the profile closest to your trip. The estimate assumes normal use — maps, messaging, photos, a short call home.

As a rule of thumb, a 3–4 day city break runs on about 1–3 GB, a one-week trip on 3–5 GB, a two-week multi-country tour on 8–12 GB, and working on the road takes about 1 GB a day, so 15 GB or more for two weeks.

In total, a 5 GB data allowance covers roughly 1,700 shared photos, 83 hours of social media and browsing, 15 hours of video calls, 63 hours of music streaming, or about 1000 hours of maps and navigation. Messaging apps barely use data.

Important cities in Pakistan

Islamabad · City guide

Islamabad

Islamabad is laid out in lettered sectors below the Margalla Hills, which makes an address unusually easy to follow. Faisal Mosque, one of the largest in Asia, stands at the foot of those hills; the Pakistan Monument and the Daman-e-Koh viewpoint look back across the city, and Margalla Hills National Park puts hiking trails minutes from the centre. Islamabad International lies about 25 kilometres southwest, 35 to 45 minutes by taxi. Reception thins as the trails climb the ridge, so load the route before you start walking.

Islamabad eSIM — set up before you fly

Why Horizon

Buy for the leg you cannot drive

Most itineraries give four or five days to Islamabad, Lahore and the motorway between them, then add the north as a separate block reached by air. Match the validity to that whole span, including the spare days a Gilgit or Skardu flight can swallow, and check that Pakistan is named on the plan's own territory list rather than inferred from a regional label. What a phone manages varies with where you stand: Karachi is dense and coastal, the Punjab corridor is flat and open, and the Karakoram valleys are walled by peaks with long gaps between towns. Download the northern maps while you are still in a city.

Frequently asked questions

When is the north open, and when are the cities at their best?

They run on opposite calendars: the dates decide the trip. Hunza, Skardu and the Karakoram are at their best from April to October for trekking and road access, because high passes and some mountain roads are snowbound in winter — arrive in January and the drive is gone. Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi are best from November to February, when the plains are dry and cool. Summers in Punjab and Sindh climb well above 40 degrees Celsius, and the monsoon runs June to September, with August often the wettest month nationwide.

How many days does a trip covering both the mountains and the Punjab cities need?

Treat it as two blocks. Islamabad and Lahore, 375 kilometres apart on a four to five hour motorway, absorb four or five days between them without rushing the Mughal sites. Hunza or Skardu is separate again: an hour to two in the air from Islamabad, but weather-dependent, so keep spare days at both ends. A fortnight is a comfortable frame for both halves, and ten days works if Karachi is left out.

Is a Hunza or Skardu extension practical after Islamabad and Lahore?

It is, provided the itinerary carries slack. Gilgit and Skardu are served by domestic flights from Islamabad that fly under visual rules because of the surrounding peaks, so they are delayed or cancelled when the weather closes in. The road is not a same-day substitute: Skardu is about 640 kilometres by road against 292 in a straight line, a mountainous drive spread over more than one day. Plan the northern leg as its own trip with buffer days.

Flight or the Karakoram Highway to Hunza — how much time does each take?

By air, Islamabad to Gilgit is one to two hours, and Gilgit is the usual gateway for Hunza. By road it is 480 to 500 kilometres of Karakoram Highway, a full day of twelve hours or more through deep valleys and landslide-prone sections. Flights are strongly preferred for that distance, though the weather governs them; the drive is the scenery itself if the day is available, and much of it runs far from any town.

How long do Lahore's old city and the Mughal-era sites take on their own?

Two full days is a sound frame. Lahore Fort and the Badshahi Mosque are adjacent at the edge of the Walled City and fill a day together with the lanes behind them. The Shalimar Gardens, the second UNESCO-listed site here, are about five kilometres northeast and deserve a half-day. With the airport only 14 kilometres out, 25 to 30 minutes by road, arrival and departure days lose very little.

Is trekking from Skardu towards K2 open to an ordinary traveller?

Skardu itself asks nothing unusual. It is a normal town reached by a short flight from Islamabad, with Shangrila and Lower Kachura Lake and Sadpara Lake close by, and the valley scenery begins there. What Skardu also does is open the Karakoram trekking and base-camp routes towards K2, and those are a different order of undertaking, planned well ahead and with local outfitters. Judge the two separately when you build the itinerary.

Does a Pakistan plan cover a stopover in the UAE or elsewhere en route?

Only if that country is named on the offer. A Pakistan plan is sold for Pakistan, so a night in the Gulf on the way through, an onward hop or a land crossing sits outside its territory unless the plan lists the country itself. A regional label is not the same as the list. If the stopover is a real stay rather than an aircraft change, read the territory field before buying, or carry a separate profile for that leg.
