Africa eSIM for exact booked destinations

Compare the Horizon Africa eSIM only after matching every booked stop to the destinations shown in the selected plan. Then choose data and validity for the period between the first included arrival and the final covered stay.

This Africa product currently joins six specific destinations: Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, South Africa and Réunion. Its regional name does not extend service to the rest of the continent. A Casablanca work stay and a booked visit in Egypt can both fit the list, while Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana and Mauritius are absent and require a separate applicable product. On Réunion, inclusion confirms the territory, not reception along every coast road, inside accommodation or on a mountain stage. Save each arrival address and organiser instruction before leaving dependable Wi-Fi.

How eSIM works in Africa

Install the eSIM on reliable Wi-Fi before departure and keep the setup guide plus first addresses available offline. Leave the line disabled until you enter a destination listed by the plan, then select Horizon for mobile data and enable roaming on that line. In an included destination, the eSIM’s first successful connection to a supported network starts the chosen validity. No separate manual activation step is required.

Pick a destination, data allowance and validity period.

  2. Install your eSIM

Scan the QR or auto-install in the app — no physical SIM.

  3. Land & connect

Data activates on first connection at your destination.

Size it to your trip

Pick the profile closest to your trip. The estimate assumes normal use — maps, messaging, photos, a short call home.

As a rule of thumb, a 3–4 day city break runs on about 1–3 GB, a one-week trip on 3–5 GB, a two-week multi-country tour on 8–12 GB, and working on the road takes about 1 GB a day, so 15 GB or more for two weeks.

In total, a 1 GB data allowance covers roughly 330 shared photos, 17 hours of social media and browsing, 2.9 hours of video calls, 13 hours of music streaming, or about 200 hours of maps and navigation. Messaging apps barely use data.

Staying three weeks to a month, or using data heavily every day? That is the trip the 20 GB plan is priced for.

Why Horizon

Match the Africa eSIM to the full itinerary

Begin with the full destination list, not the regional label. A Casablanca work address and an Egyptian museum meeting may both be included, but an added stay in Lagos or Nairobi changes the product decision. Next match validity to all covered days and choose enough data for messages, maps, bookings, uploads or shared laptop work. If you connect a laptop, Horizon adds no hotspot fee and does not throttle the shared connection; that device draws from the data amount you selected. Download interior-island instructions before a Réunion stage because territorial inclusion cannot promise reception at a particular road or trail.

Frequently asked questions

Which destinations does this Africa eSIM include?

The selected Horizon Africa eSIM currently covers 6 destinations: Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Reunion, Tunisia, South Africa. Match every booked country or territory to this displayed list before purchase, and check it again if the itinerary changes.

Does this Africa eSIM include Nigeria?

No. Nigeria is absent from the Horizon Africa package, so its regional name does not make a Lagos or Abuja stay eligible. For a Nigeria-only trip, compare the Nigeria eSIM plans shown for that destination.

How does this differ from North Africa?

The North Africa product lists Algeria, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia. This Africa product includes those same four destinations plus South Africa and Réunion. Compare the exact list displayed for the product rather than choosing from the region name alone.

How do I choose validity for several arrivals?

Count the days from the first planned use in an included destination through the final covered stay, then compare that period with the durations currently offered. Installing the eSIM early does not use the selected period; its first successful supported-network connection in an included destination starts it.

Can I share data and keep my usual number?

Hotspot sharing is free on every Horizon plan. The phone and connected devices draw from one shared plan allowance without throttling. The Africa eSIM is data-only and includes no local number. A compatible dual-SIM phone can keep the home SIM installed, but its provider may charge for calls, messages or data left active abroad.

Does inclusion guarantee data everywhere?

No. Inclusion establishes that a destination belongs to the product; it does not promise reception on every street, road, indoor space or trail. Keep accommodation addresses, tickets and organiser instructions available offline, especially before a planned interior stage on Réunion.

Does the Africa eSIM include calls and texts?

No. Horizon plans are data-only, with no phone number for calls or texts. Use apps such as WhatsApp or FaceTime over the eSIM's data, or keep your usual SIM on for ordinary calls and texts.

Do I need to turn on data roaming for the Africa eSIM?

Yes. A travel eSIM connects to local networks as a roaming line, so turn on data roaming for the Horizon eSIM when you arrive. The plan is prepaid, so Horizon does not bill you after checkout. Keep data roaming off on your usual SIM to avoid charges from your home carrier.

What happens if I run out of data on the Africa eSIM?

You can buy more. If your plan supports a top-up, My eSIMs shows the data you can add to the same eSIM. If it does not, buy another Africa plan and install it the same way.

Will my phone work with the Africa eSIM?

It will if your phone supports eSIM and is not locked to your home carrier. Many recent iPhone and Android models do, but some regional versions do not, so check your exact model on the supported devices page before you buy.

See supported devices
Will Horizon slow down my data?

No. Horizon fixed-data plans have no throttling. There is no daily limit that slows you down, so you can use your whole plan in one day if you need to. Your speed depends on the local network, your signal and how busy the network is. When your data allowance is used up, the plan stops rather than slowing down.

Can I get a refund if I already used some data?

Yes. We always refund the full amount you paid when you request it, whether your eSIM is unused, partly used or fully used. There is no time limit for requesting a refund.
