As of October 2026, Horizon's Angola eSIM plans name one partner network, Africell, with 3G/4G where available. The page lists two plans: 1 GB for 7 days and 3 GB for 15 days. The eSIM is data-only and works beside your own SIM, so you install it at home over Wi-Fi and switch the line on once you are in Angola.
This guide covers the network, the two plans and how to stretch them, the setup, the arrival in Luanda and the long roads to the coast and the Huíla plateau.
The network the Angola plans name
Horizon's Angola page names Africell as the partner network, listed with 3G/4G where available. It is not listed with 5G. A badge describes what the network supports, not what one office block, coastal road or mountain viewpoint will give you; which generation your phone shows depends on the device, the location and local conditions. Reception may vary by area.
The Angola data plans
As of October 2026, the page lists these plans:
| Data | Validity |
|---|---|
| 1 GB | 7 days |
| 3 GB | 15 days |
Current prices are on the destination page, because they follow the live catalogue.
Both plans are small, so they suit a short stay built around messages, email and maps. A week of Luanda meetings, with Wi-Fi at the hotel, fits the 1 GB plan if you keep video and uploads for Wi-Fi; two weeks, or a route that adds Benguela or Lubango, points to the 3 GB plan for 15 days. Set photo backups and app updates to wait for Wi-Fi, and download maps before you travel. For a longer stay or heavier use, a top-up adds a plan to the eSIM already on your phone, so there is no new QR code to scan; the top-up page explains how it works.
Set it up before you fly
Check that your phone supports eSIM on the supported devices page, and that it is not locked to your home carrier. Install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi with how to install an eSIM, which covers iPhone and Android. Your installation details are in My eSIMs. Give the line a clear name, such as "Angola data", and keep it off until you arrive.
Save the QR code and installation instructions securely, somewhere you can access without this phone. Keep the eSIM installed. If you delete it or change phones, contact support before trying to reinstall; reuse of the QR code is not guaranteed.
Validity does not start until your eSIM first connects to a supported mobile network at your destination. Installing the eSIM does not start its validity.
Arriving in Luanda
Most international flights serve Luanda, the capital, on the Atlantic coast. A city name is not an address here: save the exact building entrance, the agreed pickup contact and the first appointment before the flight. Once you are in Angola:
- Turn the Horizon line on.
- Choose it as the line for mobile data.
- Turn on data roaming for the Horizon line only.
- Keep mobile data off on your home SIM, unless you accept your home operator's charges.
Hotspot, calls and your own number
Hotspot sharing is free on every Horizon plan. On a small plan, a laptop on your hotspot can use the allowance quickly, so share it for the tasks that need it and leave large downloads for Wi-Fi.
There is no Angolan number on these plans. Your home SIM can stay in the phone with your usual number; whether it can make calls or receive texts in Angola, and what that costs, is up to your home operator. Banks and airlines often send one-time codes to that number by text.
The coast and the Huíla plateau
Benguela and nearby Lobito form a separate coastal stop south of Luanda, and Lubango is the base for the Huíla plateau, with the Serra da Leba pass and the Tundavala gap nearby. Distances between these places are long, and the roads between them are where reception is most likely to change. Treat each stop as a new arrival: save its address, the local contact and the onward arrangement offline before you leave the last one.
Angola borders the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republic of the Congo, Zambia and Namibia. An Angola plan covers Angola only, so a trip that crosses a border needs a plan for the next country.
