Cameroon eSIM: network, data plans and setup
Popular Cameroon plans

As of October 2026, Horizon's Cameroon eSIM plans name one partner network, MTN, with 3G/4G where available. The page lists three plans: 3 GB for 15 days, 10 GB for 7 days and 10 GB for 30 days. The eSIM is a data-only line beside your own SIM: install it at home over Wi-Fi and switch it on once you are in Cameroon.

Below are the network, the plan sizes, the setup, the arrival in Douala or Yaoundé and the parts of a trip where a signal is less certain.

The network the Cameroon plans name

Horizon's Cameroon page names MTN as the partner network, listed with 3G/4G where available. It is not listed with 5G. A badge describes what the network supports, not what one office tower, coastal road or village will give you; which generation your phone shows depends on the device, the location and local conditions. Reception may vary by area.

The Cameroon data plans

As of October 2026, the page lists these plans:

DataValidity
3 GB15 days
10 GB7 days
10 GB30 days

The smallest plan is 3 GB for 15 days. Current prices are on the destination page, because they follow the live catalogue.

A short business trip of messages, email and maps fits the 3 GB plan, provided you are there for no more than 15 days. A week with video meetings, document uploads or a laptop on your hotspot is what the 10 GB plan for 7 days is for. A family visit or a longer assignment points to the 10 GB plan for 30 days. If that still runs short, a top-up adds a plan to the eSIM already on your phone, so there is no new QR code to scan.

Set it up before you fly

Check that your phone supports eSIM on the supported devices page, and that it is not locked to your home carrier. Install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi with how to install an eSIM, which covers iPhone and Android. Your installation details are in My eSIMs. Give the line a clear name, such as "Cameroon data", and keep it off until you arrive.

Save the QR code and installation instructions securely, somewhere you can access without this phone. Keep the eSIM installed. If you delete it or change phones, contact support before trying to reinstall; reuse of the QR code is not guaranteed.

Validity does not start until your eSIM first connects to a supported mobile network at your destination. Installing the eSIM does not start its validity.

Douala or Yaoundé

Douala International Airport serves the country's main port and business city, and Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport serves the capital. If your trip includes both, treat the move between them as a new arrival with its own pickup, entrance and contact. Once you are in Cameroon:

  1. Turn the Horizon line on.
  2. Choose it as the line for mobile data.
  3. Turn on data roaming for the Horizon line only.
  4. Keep mobile data off on your home SIM, unless you accept your home operator's charges.

Save the pickup contact, the first building's entrance and the day's first appointment offline before the flight.

Hotspot, calls and your own number

Hotspot sharing is free on every Horizon plan. A laptop on your hotspot uses the same data allowance as the phone, so include files and video calls in your estimate.

The plans include no Cameroonian number. Your home SIM can stay in the phone with your usual number; whether it can make calls or receive texts in Cameroon, and the cost, is decided by your home operator. Local mobile-money services are tied to a local SIM, so a data-only plan does not give you access to them.

Beyond Douala and Yaoundé

The roads between the cities and out to the coast at Kribi pass long stretches of forest and countryside, and that is where reception is most likely to change. For a coastal stay, keep the lodging name, the local contact and the return arrangement together and offline. Governments publish travel advice by region for Cameroon, so check your own government's advice for every region on your route before you go.

Cameroon borders Nigeria, Chad, the Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and the Republic of the Congo. A Cameroon plan covers Cameroon only, so any onward country needs its own plan.
