As of October 2026, Horizon's Dominican Republic eSIM plans name one partner network, Altice, with 4G/5G where available. The page lists five plans, from 1 GB for 7 days to 25.6 GB for 30 days. Each plan is data-only, so it works as a second line beside your own SIM: install it at home over Wi-Fi, then switch the line on when you arrive.
This guide covers the network, the plan sizes, the setup before you fly and what to expect outside the resort towns.
Which network the Dominican Republic plans name
Horizon's Dominican Republic page names Altice as the partner network, shown with 4G/5G where available. A network badge describes what the network offers, not what one beach, hotel block or mountain road will give you. Which generation your phone shows at a given spot depends on the device, the location and local conditions. Reception may vary by area.
The line carries data only. There is no Dominican phone number, and messaging and internet-calling apps use the same data allowance as everything else on the phone.
The Dominican Republic data plans
As of October 2026, the page lists these plans:
| Data | Validity |
|---|---|
| 1 GB | 7 days |
| 3 GB | 15 days |
| 10 GB | 7 days |
| 10 GB | 30 days |
| 25.6 GB | 30 days |
The largest plan holds 25,600 MB, which the page shows as 25.6 GB. Current prices are on the destination page, not in this article, because they follow the live catalogue.
Choose the days first and the data second. A resort week on the Punta Cana coast, with Wi-Fi where you sleep, uses far less than a fortnight that moves between Santo Domingo, the Samaná peninsula and the north coast, with maps, ride bookings and photo uploads every day. Video calls and a laptop on your hotspot add the most. For a two-week trip of that second kind, compare the 10 GB plan for 30 days with the shorter options.
Set it up before you fly
Check that your phone supports eSIM on the supported devices page, and that it is not locked to your home carrier. Then install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi with how to install an eSIM, which covers iPhone and Android. Your installation details are in My eSIMs. Give the new line a clear name, such as "DR data", and leave it switched off until you are in the Dominican Republic.
Save the QR code and installation instructions securely, somewhere you can access without this phone. Keep the eSIM installed. If you delete it or change phones, contact support before trying to reinstall; reuse of the QR code is not guaranteed.
Validity does not start until your eSIM first connects to a supported mobile network at your destination. Installing the eSIM does not start its validity, so setting it up a few days early costs you none of the plan.
When you arrive
Most visitors land at Punta Cana, which serves the resort coast, or at Las Américas, east of Santo Domingo. Puerto Plata, Santiago, La Romana and El Catey on the Samaná side serve other parts of the country, so the airport on your ticket decides how long the first transfer takes.
Once you are in the Dominican Republic:
- Turn the Horizon line on.
- Choose it as the line for mobile data.
- Turn on data roaming for the Horizon line only.
- Keep mobile data off on your home SIM, unless you accept your home operator's charges.
Save the transfer confirmation, the address where you are staying and an offline map before the flight. The first hour then does not depend on finding a signal or a Wi-Fi password.
Hotspot, calls and your own number
Hotspot sharing is free on every Horizon plan. A laptop or a travel companion's phone on your hotspot draws from the same data allowance, so count it when you choose a size.
Your home SIM can stay in the phone, so your usual number remains on the device. Whether it can make calls or receive texts in the Dominican Republic, and at what cost, is set by your home operator. That matters because banks and airlines often send one-time codes by text to the number they know.
Outside the resort towns
Boat days are where the signal is most likely to drop. The Saona trip from Bayahibe and the boat into Los Haitises National Park spend hours on open water or among mangroves, and the Cordillera Central around Jarabacoa and Constanza puts mountains between you and the coast. Download the boarding point, the tour operator's contact and an offline map before you leave the town.
The Dominican Republic shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti. A Dominican Republic plan covers the Dominican Republic only, not Haiti.
Short answers
Which network do the Dominican Republic plans name? Altice, with 4G/5G where available.
Can I install the eSIM before I travel? Yes. Install it at home over Wi-Fi and keep the line off until you arrive. Installing the eSIM does not start its validity.
Do I get a Dominican phone number? No. The plans are data-only. Internet calls and messaging apps use the data allowance.
Can I share the connection with a laptop? Yes. Hotspot sharing is free on every Horizon plan, and the laptop uses the same data allowance.
What if the data runs out before the trip ends? A top-up adds a plan to the eSIM already on your phone, so there is no new QR code to scan. If the data has already run out, buy it over Wi-Fi. The top-up page explains how it works.
