As of October 2026, Horizon's Eswatini eSIM names one partner network, MTN Eswatini, with 3G/4G where available. The page lists a single plan: 10 GB for 7 days. The eSIM is data-only and sits beside your own SIM, so you install it at home over Wi-Fi and switch the line on once you are in Eswatini.
This guide covers the network, the one plan and what to do on a longer stay, the setup, the arrival by road or air and the reserves where reception thins out.
The network the Eswatini plan names
Horizon's Eswatini page names MTN Eswatini as the partner network, listed with 3G/4G where available. It is not listed with 5G. A badge describes what the network supports, not what a valley road, a game drive or a mountain camp will give you; which generation your phone shows depends on the device, the location and local conditions. Reception may vary by area.
One plan: 10 GB for 7 days
As of October 2026, the page lists one plan:
| Data | Validity |
|---|---|
| 10 GB | 7 days |
Current prices are on the destination page, because they follow the live catalogue. Ten gigabytes is a lot for a week of maps and messages, and it leaves room for video calls or a laptop on your hotspot.
The limit to plan around is the 7 days. A few nights in Eswatini as part of a longer trip through South Africa fit the 10 GB plan for 7 days well. For a stay of more than a week, a top-up adds a plan to the eSIM already on your phone, so there is no new QR code to scan; the top-up page explains how it works.
Set it up before you travel
Check that your phone supports eSIM on the supported devices page, and that it is not locked to your home carrier. Install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi with how to install an eSIM, which covers iPhone and Android. Your installation details are in My eSIMs. Name the line, for example "Eswatini data", and keep it off until you have crossed into the country.
Save the QR code and installation instructions securely, somewhere you can access without this phone. Keep the eSIM installed. If you delete it or change phones, contact support before trying to reinstall; reuse of the QR code is not guaranteed.
Validity does not start until your eSIM first connects to a supported mobile network at your destination. Installing the eSIM does not start its validity, which matters on a plan of 7 days: keep the line off until you are in Eswatini.
Arriving by road or by air
Many visitors drive in from South Africa through one of the land border posts, and King Mswati III International Airport has scheduled flights, including from Johannesburg. Mbabane, the administrative capital, sits in the western highlands, with the Ezulwini Valley and Lobamba to its south-east. Once you are in Eswatini:
- Turn the Horizon line on.
- Choose it as the line for mobile data.
- Turn on data roaming for the Horizon line only.
- Keep mobile data off on your home SIM, unless you accept your home operator's charges.
Near the border, your home SIM may still pick up a South African network, so keep its data off. Save the hotel or camp address and contact offline before you reach the border post.
Hotspot, calls and your own number
Hotspot sharing is free on every Horizon plan. A laptop or a companion's phone on your hotspot uses the same data allowance, so count it when you plan the week.
There is no Eswatini number on the plan. Your home SIM can stay in the phone with your usual number; whether it can make calls or receive texts in Eswatini, and what that costs, is up to your home operator. Banks and airlines often send one-time codes to that number by text.
Reserves, valleys and the border
Hlane Royal National Park in the lowveld, Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary near the Ezulwini Valley and Malolotja Nature Reserve in the highveld take you away from the towns, and game drives and hiking trails are where reception tends to fade. Save your camp booking, the meeting point and an offline map before you leave the town.
A South Africa plan does not include Eswatini, and an Eswatini plan covers Eswatini only. A trip that combines Kruger and Eswatini therefore needs a plan for each country.
Short answers
Which network does the Eswatini plan name? MTN Eswatini, with 3G/4G where available.
Is there a plan longer than 7 days? Not as of October 2026. For a longer stay, a top-up adds another plan to the same eSIM.
Does a South Africa plan work in Eswatini? No. Eswatini needs its own plan.
Can I install the eSIM before I travel? Yes. Install it at home over Wi-Fi and keep the line off until you arrive. Installing the eSIM does not start its validity.
Do I get a local phone number? No. The plan is data-only, so internet calls and messaging apps use the data allowance.
