A Germany-only visit and a journey through neighbouring countries need different comparisons. Start with your existing mobile contract: if it already includes enough data for the trip, another eSIM may be unnecessary. If you need a separate data line, compare equal allowances first, then decide whether a country or regional plan fits the route.

Compare the same data allowance and validity
The fixed-data table uses total allowances with 30-day validity. Every figure is a public price in EUR. A larger allowance does not reset each day, and the price alone says nothing about reception.
| Provider | 5 GB / 30 days | 10 GB / 30 days | 20 GB / 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Horizon | €2.46 | €4.76 | €9.35 |
| Airalo | €10.50 | €15.00 | €21.00 |
| Nomad | €8.89 | €12.44 | €18.66 |
| Saily | €9.99 | €14.99 | €20.49 |
At 10 GB / 30 days, Horizon costs €4.76; Nomad lists €12.44, a difference of €7.68. Compare all the rows before choosing: these are dated quotes for the listed offers, not a ranking of every provider or every possible discount.
Berlin and Munich do not need separate country plans
Changing cities inside Germany does not require buying another Germany country plan. The practical difference is how you use the phone: a city break with hotel Wi-Fi can leave large downloads for the evening, while days spent changing trains keep you away from that connection. Save tickets and accommodation details offline before travelling.
For a longer stay, look at your phone’s recent usage rather than buying an allowance because it sounds generous. Sharing data with a laptop can matter more than the distance between cities. A bigger package provides more data; it does not improve the signal on a train or inside a building.
What does adding Austria or the Netherlands cost?
Horizon’s Europe plan lists 10 GB / 30 days at €7.27, compared with €4.76 for Germany alone. The €2.51 difference buys regional coverage, including Germany, Austria and the Netherlands in the checked country list. It does not buy a fresh 10 GB when you cross a border.
For Germany alone, that extra coverage may add nothing useful. For a continuous trip through several included countries, one shared pool may be easier to manage than separate allowances. Check the full country list for the actual plan, including any overnight stop; the word Europe is not a promise about every country on the continent.
Unlimited phone data and hotspot are different
Holafly publishes a 7-day unlimited plan at US$27.50 in its USD duration table. The same page specifies 1 GB per day for hotspot sharing. That can suit heavy use on the phone, but it is not unlimited laptop data. The allowance, duration and currency differ from the fixed EUR plans above, so no percentage saving is calculated against it.
Hotspot sharing is free on every Horizon plan.
A laptop or another device uses the purchased pool alongside the phone. Include photo backups, software updates and video meetings in your estimate. For an unlimited plan from another provider, read its current fair-use and hotspot terms before buying.
Horizon plans have no throttling.
Actual reception and speed still depend on the supported network, location, phone and congestion. This article does not contain route tests or speed measurements.
Check the phone before paying
Check device compatibility and that the phone is unlocked. Follow the installation guide over a stable internet connection before departure. Keep the eSIM installed while troubleshooting; deleting it is not a routine connection fix.
Validity does not start until your eSIM first connects to a supported mobile network at your destination.
Horizon’s listed plans are data-only. A data connection is different from a local phone number, ordinary calls or SMS. Your home carrier may still charge for calls, texts or data on its own line. Review both lines’ settings rather than assuming the travel plan changes your home contract.
Support, sources and the limits of this comparison
Horizon offers 24/7 human support in all languages, with guaranteed instant replies.
Contact Horizon support with setup or plan questions. An instant reply is not a promise of instant resolution. The refund policy explains purchase verification and how a refund is returned.
This comparison is written by Horizon; editorial owner: Lurian Kasumaj. Provider names link to the official product pages checked on 10 October 2026. EUR prices are the providers’ displayed euro prices, not our currency conversions. Holafly’s separate quote remains in USD. Public sale prices are included where labelled; subscriptions, account rewards and coupon codes are excluded. Recheck the selected plan and checkout before paying.
Short answers
Does 30-day validity mean I must stay for 30 days?
No. It is the expiry window after service begins, not a minimum stay. Compare the shorter plan’s actual price before assuming it costs less, and allow for your arrival and departure dates.
Is 10 GB a daily allowance?
No. In this comparison, 10 GB is the total pool for the plan. Sharing it with another device does not create a second allowance. Check your own recent mobile-data use and leave room for travel days.
