As of October 2026, Horizon's Honduras eSIM plans name two partner networks, Claro and Tigo, both with 3G/4G where available. The page lists four plans, from 1 GB for 7 days to 10 GB for 30 days. The eSIM is a data-only second line: install it at home over Wi-Fi, keep your own SIM in the phone, and switch the Horizon line on when you arrive.
This guide covers the two networks, the plan sizes, the setup, the airports and the places where reception thins out.
Claro and Tigo on the Honduras plans
Horizon's Honduras page lists Claro and Tigo, each with 3G/4G where available. Neither network is listed with 5G for these plans. A badge tells you what a network supports, not what a reef boat, a mountain bend or a jungle lodge will give you; which generation your phone shows depends on the device, the location and local conditions. Reception may vary by area.
Having two networks on the list helps outside the cities. If one is weak where you are, the network-selection setting on your phone can be set to the other listed network, then back to automatic later.
The Honduras data plans
As of October 2026, the page lists these plans:
| Data | Validity |
|---|---|
| 1 GB | 7 days |
| 3 GB | 15 days |
| 10 GB | 7 days |
| 10 GB | 30 days |
There is no plan above 10 GB. Current prices are on the destination page, because they follow the live catalogue.
A dive week on Roatán, with Wi-Fi at the dive resort, sits at the smaller end. A mainland route that links San Pedro Sula, Copán Ruinas and the boat from La Ceiba uses more: maps on the road, bus and ferry times, and photos sent along the way. For two weeks of that, compare the 10 GB plan for 30 days with the 7-day plans. If a long stay needs more than one plan, a top-up adds a plan to the eSIM already on your phone, so there is no new QR code to scan.
Set it up before you fly
Check that your phone supports eSIM on the supported devices page, and that it is not locked to your home carrier. Install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi with how to install an eSIM, which covers iPhone and Android. Your installation details are in My eSIMs. Label the line, for example "Honduras data", and leave it off until you are in Honduras.
Save the QR code and installation instructions securely, somewhere you can access without this phone. Keep the eSIM installed. If you delete it or change phones, contact support before trying to reinstall; reuse of the QR code is not guaranteed.
Validity does not start until your eSIM first connects to a supported mobile network at your destination. Installing the eSIM does not start its validity.
Which airport you land at
Honduras has several international gateways. Palmerola, near Comayagua, is now the main international airport for Tegucigalpa and lies well outside the capital, while the older Toncontín airport is inside the city. San Pedro Sula's Ramón Villeda Morales airport is the usual way in for the north coast and Copán, and Roatán has an airport of its own. Once you are in Honduras:
- Turn the Horizon line on.
- Choose it as the line for mobile data.
- Turn on data roaming for the Horizon line only.
- Keep mobile data off on your home SIM, unless you accept your home operator's charges.
Save the shuttle or pickup details and the first address offline before the flight, because the ride from Palmerola into Tegucigalpa is a long one.
Hotspot, calls and your own number
Hotspot sharing is free on every Horizon plan. A laptop or another phone on your hotspot draws from the same data allowance, so count it before you choose.
There is no Honduran number on these plans. Your home SIM can stay in the phone with your usual number; whether that number can make calls or receive texts in Honduras, and at what price, is up to your home operator. Banks and airlines often send one-time codes to it by text.
Islands, ruins and mountain roads
The Bay Islands are reached by ferry from La Ceiba or by plane, and much of the time there is spent on boats and reefs. The road to Copán Ruinas climbs through the mountains towards the Guatemalan border, and La Mosquitia in the east is remote, with few roads. Download maps, ferry times and your lodge's directions while you still have Wi-Fi.
A Honduras plan covers Honduras only. The ruins at Copán are close to Guatemala, and a day across that border needs a plan for Guatemala.
Short answers
Which networks do the Honduras plans name? Claro and Tigo, both with 3G/4G where available.
Can I install the eSIM before I travel? Yes. Install it at home over Wi-Fi and keep the line off until you arrive. Installing the eSIM does not start its validity.
Do I get a Honduran phone number? No. The plans are data-only, so internet calls and messaging apps use the data allowance.
Is there a plan larger than 10 GB? Not as of October 2026. For a longer stay, a top-up adds a plan to the same eSIM; the top-up page explains how it works.
Can I share the connection with a laptop? Yes. Hotspot sharing is free on every Horizon plan, and the laptop uses the same data allowance.
