Republic of the Congo eSIM: network, data plans and setup
Popular Republic of the Congo plans

As of October 2026, Horizon's Republic of the Congo eSIM plans name one partner network, MTN, with 4G/5G where available. The page lists three plans: 10 GB for 7 days, 10 GB for 30 days and 25.6 GB for 30 days, so even the smallest one suits a working week. The eSIM is data-only and sits beside your own SIM: install it at home over Wi-Fi, then switch the line on once you are in the country.

This guide covers the network, the plan sizes, the setup, the arrival in Brazzaville or Pointe-Noire and what to expect beyond the two cities.

The network the Republic of the Congo plans name

Horizon's page for the Republic of the Congo names MTN as the partner network, shown with 4G/5G where available. A badge describes what the network offers, not what a riverside office, a road north or a forest lodge will give you. Which generation your phone shows depends on the device, the location and local conditions. Reception may vary by area.

The data plans

As of October 2026, the page lists these plans:

DataValidity
10 GB7 days
10 GB30 days
25.6 GB30 days

There is no plan below 10 GB. The largest plan holds 25,600 MB, which the page shows as 25.6 GB. Current prices are on the destination page, because they follow the live catalogue.

Choose by the days you will be in the country. A week of meetings in Brazzaville or Pointe-Noire fits the 7-day plan. A longer posting, a family visit or a stay that moves between the two cities needs a 30-day plan; compare the 10 GB plan for 30 days with the 25.6 GB plan if video calls or a laptop on your hotspot are part of the routine. If you stay longer still, a top-up adds a plan to the eSIM already on your phone, so there is no new QR code to scan.

Set it up before you fly

Check that your phone supports eSIM on the supported devices page, and that it is not locked to your home carrier. Install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi with how to install an eSIM, which covers iPhone and Android. Your installation details are in My eSIMs. Give the line a clear name, such as "Congo data", and keep it off until you arrive.

Save the QR code and installation instructions securely, somewhere you can access without this phone. Keep the eSIM installed. If you delete it or change phones, contact support before trying to reinstall; reuse of the QR code is not guaranteed.

Validity does not start until your eSIM first connects to a supported mobile network at your destination. Installing the eSIM does not start its validity.

Arriving in Brazzaville or Pointe-Noire

Brazzaville, the capital, and Pointe-Noire, on the Atlantic coast, each have an international airport. The two cities are separate stops, so keep each one's address, contact and onward arrangement in its own note. Once you are in the Republic of the Congo:

  1. Turn the Horizon line on.
  2. Choose it as the line for mobile data.
  3. Turn on data roaming for the Horizon line only.
  4. Keep mobile data off on your home SIM, unless you accept your home operator's charges.

Save the pickup contact, the exact entrance of your first address and an offline map before the flight.

Hotspot, calls and your own number

Hotspot sharing is free on every Horizon plan. A laptop on your hotspot draws from the same data allowance as the phone, which matters on a work trip with documents and video meetings.

There is no Congolese number on these plans. Your home SIM can stay in the phone with your usual number; whether it can make calls or receive texts in the country, and the cost, is up to your home operator. Banks and airlines often send one-time codes to that number by text.

Beyond the two cities

Away from Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire, distances grow and settlements thin out. Odzala-Kokoua National Park in the north is visited on organised trips to remote lodges, and long roads and river journeys are where reception is most likely to fade. Save the organiser's meeting point, the lodge's directions and your return arrangements offline before you set off, and check your own government's travel advice for every region on your route.

Brazzaville faces Kinshasa across the Congo River, and Kinshasa is in a different country, the Democratic Republic of the Congo. A Republic of the Congo plan covers the Republic of the Congo only; the DRC has its own DRC eSIM page.

Short answers

Which network do the Republic of the Congo plans name? MTN, with 4G/5G where available.

Is there a plan smaller than 10 GB? Not as of October 2026. The smallest plan is 10 GB for 7 days.

Does the plan work in Kinshasa? No. Kinshasa is in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the plan covers the Republic of the Congo only.

Can I install the eSIM before I travel? Yes. Install it at home over Wi-Fi and keep the line off until you arrive. Installing the eSIM does not start its validity.

Do I get a local phone number? No. The plans are data-only, so internet calls and messaging apps use the data allowance.
