Cayman Islands eSIM for Grand Cayman and the Sister Islands

Compare Cayman Islands eSIM plans for George Town, Seven Mile Beach, the North Sound sandbar at Stingray City and the Sister Islands of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. Match the allowance to the days you will spend ashore and on boats, then check the territory on the offer.

The Cayman Islands are three low islands in the western Caribbean, south of Cuba and north-west of Jamaica, and a British Overseas Territory. Grand Cayman holds nearly everyone: the capital, George Town, the main airport, Seven Mile Beach and the North Sound, a large shallow lagoon. Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, the Sister Islands, lie well over a hundred kilometres to the north-east and are reached by small inter-island flights. Cruise ships anchor off George Town and bring passengers ashore by tender, which makes a ship day a matter of hours, not days.

How eSIM works in Cayman Islands

Install the Cayman Islands profile at home over Wi-Fi and keep the order details where you can still read them while the phone is busy with setup. Owen Roberts International is on the edge of George Town, a short ride from the Seven Mile Beach hotels, so the transfer leaves almost no time to sort settings. After landing, switch the travel line on, choose it as the mobile-data line and turn on data roaming for it. The validity period does not begin at installation: it begins when the eSIM first connects to a supported network in the Cayman Islands. For a boat trip, a dry bag and offline copies of the tour details matter more than any setting.

Size it to your trip

Pick the profile closest to your trip. The estimate assumes normal use — maps, messaging, photos, a short call home.

As a rule of thumb, a 3–4 day city break runs on about 1–3 GB, a one-week trip on 3–5 GB, a two-week multi-country tour on 8–12 GB, and working on the road takes about 1 GB a day, so 15 GB or more for two weeks.

In total, a 10 GB data allowance covers roughly 3,300 shared photos, 167 hours of social media and browsing, 29 hours of video calls, 125 hours of music streaming, or about 2000 hours of maps and navigation. Messaging apps barely use data.

George Town · City guide

George Town

George Town is the capital and one of the Caribbean's big financial centres, so it feels like a small business city as much as a resort town. Cruise tenders land passengers on the waterfront, where the National Museum of the Cayman Islands occupies one of the oldest buildings in town, and jewellery and souvenir shops line the harbour streets. Dive and snorkel sites along the western shore start almost at the edge of town. On a ship day, agree the pickup point for any tour and keep the last-tender time saved offline.

Why Horizon

Choose for ship hours, beach days or dive days

A cruise call gives a few hours ashore between tenders, a Seven Mile Beach week is mostly hotel, beach and dinner bookings, and a dive trip to Little Cayman shifts the focus to boat schedules and an island with very few services. Count the days you will actually be ashore, including the departure day, before choosing the validity, and check that the offer lists the Cayman Islands by name. A side trip to Jamaica or Cuba is a different territory and needs its own check.

Frequently asked questions

Is a cruise stop in George Town enough time for Stingray City?

Usually, yes, if the excursion is planned around the ship. Tenders bring passengers ashore in George Town, and boat trips to the Stingray City sandbar in the North Sound commonly fit into a port day together with a snorkel stop. The limiting factor is the tender schedule, which can change with the weather, so allow a margin before the last boat back. Save the operator's meeting point, contact number and the ship's all-aboard time offline before you leave the vessel.

How do I get to Cayman Brac or Little Cayman?

By air. Small inter-island flights connect Grand Cayman with both Sister Islands, and Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are linked to each other by short hops. Seats and baggage allowances are limited, which matters if you are travelling with dive gear, so book early and check the weight limits. Once there, accommodation, dive shops and car or bike hire are arranged locally, and services are far thinner than on Grand Cayman, so keep confirmations saved offline.

What does hurricane season mean for the Cayman Islands?

The season runs from 1 June to 30 November. Hurricane Ivan in September 2004 caused widespread damage on Grand Cayman, a reminder that these low-lying islands are exposed to storm surge as well as wind. Most visitors come in the drier winter and spring months. A booking in late summer or autumn can still work, but choose flexible terms, follow official forecasts in the days before travel and keep the accommodation contact saved offline.

Do I need a car on Grand Cayman?

Not for a stay on Seven Mile Beach, where many restaurants and shops are within walking distance, and minibuses run along West Bay Road into George Town. A car helps for the East End, Rum Point and the botanic park, which are spread out along long coastal roads. Traffic drives on the left, and roundabouts are common around George Town. Taxis are plentiful near the beach hotels but scarcer further east, so save a driver's number before heading out for the day.

Can I visit Stingray City without a boat?

No. Stingray City is a sandbar in the middle of the North Sound, and the only way to stand among the rays is on a boat trip or a private charter. Departures leave from marinas around the sound and from the West Bay side. Expect to be in shallow water for a while, so carry the phone in a waterproof pouch or leave it on board, and save the operator's meeting point, contact and return time before leaving shore.

Does a Cayman Islands plan cover a trip to Jamaica or Cuba?

No. Jamaica and Cuba are each a short flight from Grand Cayman, but they are separate countries with their own territories, and a plan written for the Cayman Islands covers the Cayman Islands. If the route continues, read the destination list on the offer and either choose one that names every country, or arrange a separate plan for the onward leg before the flight. The same applies to cruise itineraries that combine George Town with ports in Mexico or Jamaica.

Why does the data line go quiet on a boat trip?

Open water, the far side of the North Sound and the reefs off the East End are where a phone is most likely to lose its signal, and the outcome varies with the device, the plan and the exact spot. That is normal rather than a fault. Back on land, if data still does not return, check that the travel line is switched on, chosen as the mobile-data line and has data roaming enabled, then restart the phone. Keep tickets, meeting points and maps saved offline for the whole day.

Will Horizon slow down my data?

No. Horizon fixed-data plans have no throttling. There is no daily limit that slows you down, so you can use your whole plan in one day if you need to. Your speed depends on the local network, your signal and how busy the network is. When your data allowance is used up, the plan stops rather than slowing down.

Can I get a refund if I already used some data?

Yes. We always refund the full amount you paid when you request it, whether your eSIM is unused, partly used or fully used. There is no time limit for requesting a refund.
