Compare Brazil eSIM plans for Rio de Janeiro and its beaches, the Pelourinho in Salvador, the falls at Foz do Iguaçu and the modernist capital at Brasília. A trip here is usually four bases and several boarding passes, so look at how long the plan runs, which territories it names, and what it says about sharing the connection.
Brazil is big enough that the itinerary is really a flight schedule. Rio de Janeiro to Salvador is about 1,650 kilometres — two hours and ten minutes in the air against more than twenty hours of driving — while Rio to Foz do Iguaçu is roughly 1,100 kilometres and Rio to Brasília about 1,150. Only the Rio–São Paulo corridor, some 430 kilometres, is routinely done overland, by bus in around six hours. The Serra do Mar rises between those two cities, the Amazon basin is reached by river boat and small aircraft, and the Cerrado interior and the Pantanal wetlands run for long, thinly populated stretches. Those are the parts of the trip to prepare for, not the city blocks.

Add the Brazil profile at home over Wi-Fi, and keep the order confirmation somewhere other than the phone it belongs to. Whatever the plan says about the point at which it takes over mobile data is the wording to follow. Galeão takes the international arrival, about 20 kilometres from Copacabana and forty to fifty minutes by taxi or rideshare, while Santos Dumont sits roughly two kilometres from downtown and handles most domestic legs — so a Rio stay often means changing airports mid-trip, with the next address wanted offline. Before boarding, switch mobile data off on the home line so nothing runs on it while you fly.

Rio is built around steep hills that come down to the sea, and the sights follow that shape: Cristo Redentor on top of Corcovado, the Sugarloaf cable car, then Copacabana and Ipanema at the bottom. Santa Teresa sits on its own hillside above the centre. The vertical layout is the practical detail — the climb to Corcovado and the cable-car stages both leave the street grid behind, so load the ticket times before you go up. Galeão is about 20 kilometres from Copacabana.
eSIM de Rio de Janeiro: configúralo antes de volar →Salvador · Guía de la ciudad
Salvador divides into an upper and a lower city, joined by the art-deco Elevador Lacerda — a working public lift, not an attraction. Pelourinho, the UNESCO-listed historic centre, is on the upper level, and Igreja do Bonfim stands apart from both. The Bahia coast runs north to Praia do Forte and south to Morro de São Paulo, an island with no cars, so the last leg is over water; that crossing is the part to prepare offline. The airport is about 28 kilometres from Pelourinho, roughly forty minutes.
eSIM de Salvador: configúralo antes de volar →Foz do Iguaçu · Guía de la ciudad
Foz do Iguaçu is a border town with three draws and one complication. The Brazilian side of the falls gives the panoramic walkway; the Argentine side, over the frontier, has the close-up catwalks; Itaipu Dam and the Parque das Aves bird sanctuary fill the rest. All of it sits inside dense subtropical forest, and the parks straddle the border, so a handset here can pick up the other country's network without anyone crossing. The airport is about 13 kilometres from town and 17 from the falls entrance.

Brasília was drawn before it was built, and it reads that way on foot. The Praça dos Três Poderes holds the Congresso Nacional and the Palácio do Planalto, and the Catedral Metropolitana belongs to the same Niemeyer and Costa ensemble, which is UNESCO-listed. Distances between those buildings are long and open rather than street-scale. The airport is about 11 kilometres from the centre, and beyond the city the Cerrado highways run thinly populated for hours.

Match the number of days to the flight plan rather than to the map, because a first trip wanting Rio, the falls and the Amazon is three bases with internal legs between them. The seasons run opposite to the northern calendar: December to March is the hot half in Rio, São Paulo and Salvador, in the thirties with short heavy showers, while June to August is cooler, roughly 20 to 25°C in Rio. The far south around Florianópolis has four distinct seasons and can drop into single digits in winter. Carnival lands in February or March and the dates move each year — the busiest and most expensive week in the country. September to November and March to May are the easier months for Rio. If the trip crosses to the Argentine side at Iguaçu, check that the offer names that country itself.

Mostly, yes. Rio de Janeiro to Salvador is about 1,650 kilometres: two hours and ten minutes flying, against more than twenty hours of driving. Rio to Foz do Iguaçu is roughly 1,100 kilometres and about two hours in the air; Rio to Brasília some 1,150 kilometres, an hour and forty flying or fourteen hours by road. The exception is the Rio–São Paulo corridor at around 430 kilometres, where frequent buses take about six hours.
Plan on separate bases rather than day trips. Rio wants three or four days on its own — Corcovado, Sugarloaf, the beaches and Santa Teresa do not compress well. Foz do Iguaçu is a two-hour flight from Rio and repays two days if you want both sides of the falls as well as Itaipu or the bird park. An Amazon lodge out of Manaus is a multi-night commitment with a flight at each end. Two weeks makes the combination comfortable; ten days makes it a rush.
Carnival falls in February or March and the dates move each year, so look them up before booking: it is the busiest and most expensive stretch on the calendar, which is either the reason to come or the reason to stay away. Seasons are inverted here. December to March is the hot half in Rio, São Paulo and Salvador, in the thirties with short heavy showers; June to August is cooler, roughly 20 to 25°C in Rio. September to November and March to May are the easier months.
The default is the beach strip. Copacabana and Ipanema put you on the sand with Leblon beyond, and Santos Dumont, the airport that takes most domestic flights, is only about two kilometres from downtown. Santa Teresa is the alternative — a hillside neighbourhood above the centre, quieter and further from the water, with the climb up and down as the trade-off. Galeão, where international flights land, is about 20 kilometres from Copacabana, forty to fifty minutes by road.
They are different views, and the town of Foz do Iguaçu is the base for both. The Brazilian side gives the panoramic walkway, the falls seen whole rather than close up. The Argentine side puts you on catwalks over the water, close up. Doing both means crossing an international border, and that is the part with a consequence for a phone: do not assume a plan bought for Brazil continues on the Argentine side. Read the offer's own territory list first.
It is worth it if you accept what it costs in time and in signal. The basin is reached by river boat and small aircraft, and deep-jungle lodges sit far from any cell infrastructure, so those days are effectively offline whatever you are carrying. Manaus itself is hot and humid all year, around 27 to 32°C, and rainiest from December to May. Save the return flight details, the lodge directions and anything you need to read before you leave the city.
It is reached by air through Recife or Natal, and it is a protected marine park: visitor numbers are capped and an environmental fee applies, so the leg has to be booked rather than improvised. What it gives back is clear water around a remote Atlantic archipelago. Treat it as its own stretch of days instead of an add-on to a Rio week, and settle the fee and the bookings before you fly out — an island that far offshore is a poor place to be sorting paperwork.
