“I used the Horizon Balkans eSIM on a recent trip. The best part was not having to think about buying a new SIM every time I crossed a border. I used it for maps, WhatsApp, checking hotels, finding restaurants, and looking up beaches and places to visit.
The package covers Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia and I added Kosovo eSIM to the same order. I would use it again for another trip through the Balkans”

Compare Albania eSIM plans for Tirana arrivals, Riviera drives and northern mountain stays. Check data, validity, listed territory, tethering and device compatibility before choosing.
An Albania itinerary can start with the airport bus into Tirana, follow the coast from Vlorë toward Sarandë and finish in Theth. Data helps with official transport information, accommodation messages and road navigation, but mountain valleys and isolated beaches may have limited reception. Save tickets, addresses and offline maps; service depends on the plan, device, location, terrain and local network conditions. Arrivals split three ways: a flight into Tirana, an overnight Adriatic ferry from an Italian port to Durrës or Vlorë, and a car coming down through the region for a family summer. Each one moves the place where you last had usable Wi-Fi, so prepare the phone for the leg you are actually taking. City stays in Tirana, Shkodër or Gjirokastër spend data in small doses on tickets, menus and museum hours, while a week on the coast spends more of it on maps and photos sent from the road.

How eSIM works in Albania
Install the eSIM while dependable Wi-Fi is available and keep the instructions offline. On arrival, select it as the data line and follow only the chosen plan's activation steps. Download maps before Llogara or Theth, and keep roaming off on the home SIM unless deliberately needed. If you are crossing by ferry, do the setup at the Italian port while you still have a connection you trust, because there is little to no mobile signal for much of the night at sea and the thing you want first on the far shore is the route off the dock.

Size it to your trip
Pick the profile closest to your trip. The estimate assumes normal use — maps, messaging, photos, a short call home.
As a rule of thumb, a 3–4 day city break runs on about 1–3 GB, a one-week trip on 3–5 GB, a two-week multi-country tour on 8–12 GB, and working on the road takes about 1 GB a day, so 15 GB or more for two weeks.
- Maps every day
- Messaging and photos
- A short call home most days
In total, a 3 GB data allowance covers roughly 1,000 shared photos, 50 hours of social media and browsing, 8.8 hours of video calls, 38 hours of music streaming, or about 600 hours of maps and navigation. Messaging apps barely use data.
Important cities in Albania
Tirana · City guide
Tirana
Tirana Airport publishes bus links into the capital and other cities. Use data to confirm the current stop and timetable, then save the accommodation address before exploring Skanderbeg Square or taking the Dajti cable car. For a city stay the useful things are small and frequent: the current stop, an opening time, a place that is still serving, the entrance of a flat with no name on the door. Note the number of the bus back and the nearest landmark before your first evening out, because the newer blocks can look alike after dark.

Vlorë / Sarandë
The official Riviera route runs from Vlorë through Llogara and coastal villages toward Sarandë and Ksamil. Use data for road changes, boat bookings and lodging messages, while keeping the next address offline for coves where reception may vary. Vlorë is also an Adriatic arrival point for ferries from Italy, though which Italian port sails here changes by operator and season. Coming off a night sailing, look at the road south before leaving the port area, because the Llogara section takes longer than the distance suggests and the villages below it are where a saved address earns its keep.

Shkodër / Theth
Shkodër is a common staging point for Theth in the Albanian Alps. Download the road or trail map, guesthouse details and weather guidance before entering the valley; mobile service should supplement, not replace, suitable mountain preparation.

Berat / Gjirokastër
In Berat and Gjirokastër, steep stone streets make the exact lodging entrance more useful than a general pin. Save it offline, use data for museum opening times and onward bus information, and expect reception to vary inside thick-walled buildings.

Choose an Albania eSIM for the actual route
Match data and validity to driving days, navigation and media use. Verify that the plan covers Albania and every other country on the itinerary, and check whether tethering is allowed. Do not assume an Albania-only plan continues into Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia or Greece. Budget the allowance by the shape of the trip rather than its length: a fortnight of family visits in one town is not the same as ten days of driving between coastal villages with the phone on the dashboard. Where the two overlap, take the larger figure, and check whether the plan you prefer allows tethering, since a rented apartment with no connection of its own changes what the phone has to carry.

Frequently asked questions
How do I choose an Albania eSIM?
Compare the data allowance and validity with the complete Albania itinerary, including navigation on driving days. Before buying, verify the listed territory, phone compatibility and tethering terms instead of choosing only by the length of the trip.
Can I keep my home SIM active?
Yes, a dual-SIM phone can keep the home number available while the Albania eSIM handles mobile data. Disable data switching and roaming on the home SIM unless deliberately needed; calls, voicemail, texts or background data on that line may still create carrier charges.
Are calls, texts or hotspot included?
Features vary by individual plan, so read the product details before purchase to see whether voice, SMS and tethering are included. If the plan is data-only, internet calling and messaging apps can work when service is available and will use the selected allowance.
Will it work in Theth and remote beaches?
Reception may be limited by terrain and precise location even when Albania appears in the plan's territory list. Do not rely on continuous service in Theth, Llogara or isolated coves; download road or trail maps, lodging coordinates and emergency information before leaving a connected town.
Does it continue across a Balkan border?
Only if every country after the border appears in the selected plan's coverage list. An Albania-only plan should not be assumed to continue in Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia or Greece; compare an eligible regional plan or separate country plans before departure.
What if the Albania eSIM has no data?
Reconnect to Wi-Fi and confirm the Albania eSIM is enabled and selected for mobile data. Follow the plan's activation, roaming, network-selection and APN instructions, restart the phone if requested, and keep the profile installed while support checks the order details and screenshots.
