Bahamas eSIM: network, data plans and setup
Popular Bahamas plans

As of October 2026, Horizon's Bahamas eSIM plans name one partner network, Aliv, with 3G/4G where available. The page lists four plans, from 1 GB for 7 days to 10 GB for 30 days. The eSIM carries data only and works as a second line next to your own SIM, so you install it at home and switch it on once you are in the Bahamas.

This guide covers the network, the plan sizes, the setup, the arrival in Nassau and what changes on the Out Islands and on the water.

The network the Bahamas plans name

Horizon's Bahamas page names Aliv as the partner network, listed with 3G/4G where available. It is not listed with 5G. A badge describes what the network supports, not what a cay, a dive boat or a long stretch of Eleuthera road will give you; which generation your phone shows depends on the device, the location and local conditions. Reception may vary by area.

The Bahamas data plans

As of October 2026, the page lists these plans:

DataValidity
1 GB7 days
3 GB15 days
10 GB7 days
10 GB30 days

There is no plan above 10 GB. Current prices are on the destination page, because they follow the live catalogue.

A long weekend in Nassau and Paradise Island, with Wi-Fi at the hotel, is a small-plan trip. A fortnight that hops between islands by plane, ferry or boat uses more: maps on unfamiliar roads, ferry changes, messages to the next host and photos from every beach. For that, compare the 10 GB plan for 30 days with the 7-day plans. If one plan is not enough, a top-up adds a plan to the eSIM already on your phone, so there is no new QR code to scan.

Set it up before you fly

Check that your phone supports eSIM on the supported devices page, and that it is not locked to your home carrier. Then install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi with how to install an eSIM, which covers iPhone and Android. Your installation details are in My eSIMs. Label the line, for example "Bahamas data", and leave it off until you arrive.

Save the QR code and installation instructions securely, somewhere you can access without this phone. Keep the eSIM installed. If you delete it or change phones, contact support before trying to reinstall; reuse of the QR code is not guaranteed.

Validity does not start until your eSIM first connects to a supported mobile network at your destination. Installing the eSIM does not start its validity.

Arriving in Nassau or on an Out Island

Most international flights land at Lynden Pindling International Airport on New Providence, the island of Nassau. Grand Bahama has its own international airport, and many Out Islands, such as the Exumas, Eleuthera and Abaco, have smaller airports with flights from Nassau or Florida. Once you are in the Bahamas:

  1. Turn the Horizon line on.
  2. Choose it as the line for mobile data.
  3. Turn on data roaming for the Horizon line only.
  4. Keep mobile data off on your home SIM, unless you accept your home operator's charges.

Arriving by cruise ship? At sea, a phone may join the ship's own mobile network, which your home operator bills as roaming. Keep mobile data and roaming off on your home SIM, and turn the Horizon line on once the ship is in port.

Hotspot, calls and your own number

Hotspot sharing is free on every Horizon plan. A laptop or a family member's tablet on your hotspot uses the same data allowance, so include it when you pick a size.

The plans give you no Bahamian number. Your home SIM can stay in the phone with your usual number; whether it can make calls or receive texts in the Bahamas, and what that costs, is up to your home operator. Banks and airlines often send one-time codes to that number by text.

The Out Islands and the open water

The Bahamas is spread across many islands and cays, and much of a trip outside Nassau happens on boats, sandbars and long island roads. Between islands, on a boat or at a remote cay, reception may vary or stop altogether. Hurricane season runs from June to November, and storms can disrupt power and networks. Download ferry and flight times, your host's directions and offline maps before you leave Nassau.

The Turks and Caicos Islands are a separate territory to the south-east. A Bahamas plan covers the Bahamas only, so a cruise or flight that continues there needs its own plan.

Short answers

Which network do the Bahamas plans name? Aliv, with 3G/4G where available.

Can I install the eSIM before I travel? Yes. Install it at home over Wi-Fi and keep the line off until you arrive. Installing the eSIM does not start its validity.

Is there a plan larger than 10 GB? Not as of October 2026. A top-up adds a plan to the same eSIM; the top-up page explains how it works.

Do I get a Bahamian phone number? No. The plans are data-only, and internet calls and messaging apps use the data allowance.

Does the plan cover the Turks and Caicos Islands? No. It covers the Bahamas only.
