Compare Bahamas eSIM plans for Nassau and Paradise Island, Grand Bahama, the Exuma Cays and Eleuthera. Count the island-hopping days apart from the resort days when you size the data, then confirm that the offer names the Bahamas itself.
The Bahamas is an archipelago of hundreds of islands and cays spread across a wide stretch of the Atlantic, and only a few dozen of them are inhabited. Most of the population lives on New Providence, where Nassau and the main international airport sit; Grand Bahama, with Freeport, is the second hub. Everything else is known locally as the Out Islands or Family Islands, and each one is a separate journey by domestic flight, fast ferry or mailboat. That shapes the data question: a week in one Nassau hotel uses a phone very differently from a week that strings together Exuma, Eleuthera and a day out on a boat.

Install the Bahamas profile at home over Wi-Fi, while the order email and QR code are still on a screen you can read, and keep a copy that does not live only on the phone. Lynden Pindling International sits on the western side of New Providence, a taxi ride from downtown Nassau and Cable Beach. On arrival, switch the travel line on, set it as the line for mobile data and turn on data roaming for it; the home line's data can stay off. Installing the profile does not start the validity period; it starts when the eSIM first connects to a supported network in the Bahamas. Before an Out Island hop, save the ferry times, the accommodation address and an offline map of that island.

As a rule of thumb, a 3–4 day city break runs on about 1–3 GB, a one-week trip on 3–5 GB, a two-week multi-country tour on 8–12 GB, and working on the road takes about 1 GB a day, so 15 GB or more for two weeks.
In total, a 10 GB data allowance covers roughly 3,300 shared photos, 167 hours of social media and browsing, 29 hours of video calls, 125 hours of music streaming, or about 2000 hours of maps and navigation. Messaging apps barely use data.
Nassau · City guide
Nassau is the capital and the busiest stop in the country. Cruise ships tie up at Prince George Wharf beside downtown, so Bay Street, the Queen's Staircase and Fort Fincastle are an easy walk from the gangway, and two bridges lead across the harbour to the resorts of Paradise Island. Cable Beach runs west of the centre towards the airport. Junkanoo parades fill the streets in the early hours of Boxing Day and New Year's Day, and the crowds make those nights a time to save meeting points offline.
Nassau eSIM — set up before you flyGrand Bahama · City guide
Grand Bahama is the second most populous island, built around Freeport, a planned port city founded in the 1950s under a special economic agreement, and the beach district of Lucaya next door. Lucayan National Park, further east along the island, protects an extensive underwater cave system along with mangroves and Gold Rock Beach. Hurricane Dorian struck Grand Bahama and the Abaco Islands hard in 2019. Distances along the island are long, so carry the route out to the park or the East End before leaving Freeport.
Grand Bahama eSIM — set up before you flyExuma · City guide
Exuma is a chain of more than a hundred cays stretching north-west from Great Exuma, where George Town and the international airport serve as the base. The Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park protects a large stretch of the chain, and most visitors see the cays on a boat day that may take in the swimming pigs at Big Major Cay and Thunderball Grotto near Staniel Cay. Much of that day is spent on open water between small islands, so download the tour's meeting point, the return time and a map before the boat leaves the dock.
Exuma eSIM — set up before you flyEleuthera · City guide
Eleuthera is a long, narrow island east of Nassau, served by several small airports and by fast ferry from the capital. At the Glass Window Bridge the land narrows to a single road, with the deep blue Atlantic on one side and the calmer, greener Bight of Eleuthera on the other. Off the north end, Harbour Island and its pink-sand beach are reached by water taxi from the North Eleuthera dock. Settlements along the island are spread out, so a rental car and an offline map do most of the work here.
Eleuthera eSIM — set up before you flyWhy Horizon
A week on Paradise Island or Cable Beach mostly means resort grounds, a beach and the odd taxi into Nassau. A trip that adds Exuma or Eleuthera brings domestic flights, ferry timetables, rental cars and boat days, and each hop deserves its own offline preparation. Count the travel days, including the departure day, then read the destination list on the offer and check that it names the Bahamas, not only a regional label. A cruise that also calls in Florida or another Caribbean country leaves that territory at every one of those ports.

It depends on how much travelling you want inside the trip. Nassau and Paradise Island have the most hotels, the main airport and the cruise piers, so they suit a first visit or a short stay. Exuma suits travellers who want boat days through the cays, with George Town as a base. Eleuthera and Harbour Island are quieter and spread out, better with a rental car. Combining two islands is common, but every hop adds a flight or ferry and about half a day of transit.
Mostly by air. Domestic and charter flights link Nassau with the Out Islands, and some routes also connect islands directly. Fast ferries run from Nassau to destinations such as Eleuthera and Harbour Island, and the slower mailboats carry passengers and cargo to many islands on longer schedules. Timetables change with the season and the weather, so confirm each departure close to the date and keep the booking, the dock or terminal and the accommodation contact saved offline.
The Atlantic season runs from 1 June to 30 November, and storm activity around the Bahamas is usually highest from August to October. Hurricane Dorian, which struck the Abaco Islands and Grand Bahama in 2019, showed how much damage a single storm can do. A booking in that window carries a different risk from one in winter or spring. Choose flexible travel and accommodation terms where you can, watch official forecasts in the days before departure, and follow local instructions if a storm approaches.
Only for the time the ship is in the Bahamas. A plan written for the Bahamas covers that territory, so a call in Florida is a United States question and a stop in Mexico or another Caribbean island is a question for that country. Many itineraries also include a private island used by the cruise line; check on the itinerary which country it belongs to. Out at sea between ports the phone may be beyond the reach of land networks, so plan around the hours in port.
No. The two share the same chain of islands, the Lucayan Archipelago, but the Turks and Caicos Islands are a separate British Overseas Territory with their own border controls. A route that combines Nassau or Exuma with Providenciales therefore crosses into a different territory, usually by air. Check that the offer you choose lists every territory on the route, or carry a separate plan for the Turks and Caicos leg.
Often, yes. On Exuma and Eleuthera, settlements, beaches and restaurants are spread along long roads with limited public transport, and taxis can be scarce away from the airports and docks. Traffic drives on the left. On New Providence, taxis and jitney buses cover Nassau and Cable Beach, so a car is optional there. Wherever you drive, download the island map before leaving Wi-Fi, because the stretches between settlements are long and empty.
Remote cays and the water between islands are where reception is most likely to drop, and what a handset finds there can vary with the device, the plan and the exact spot. Before blaming the settings, check that the travel line is switched on, selected for mobile data and has data roaming enabled. If it still shows nothing, move to the settlement or the dock, or wait until the boat is back near shore, and keep the day's maps and bookings saved offline in the meantime.
No. Horizon fixed-data plans have no throttling. There is no daily limit that slows you down, so you can use your whole plan in one day if you need to. Your speed depends on the local network, your signal and how busy the network is. When your data allowance is used up, the plan stops rather than slowing down.
