Hungary eSIM comparison: Budapest, EU roaming and price
Popular Hungary plans

If you have an EU or EEA SIM, check your home plan before buying anything for Hungary: roaming there may already be charged at domestic rates, within your operator's fair-use limits. A travel eSIM matters most for visitors from outside the EU and EEA, and for EU travellers with a small roaming allowance. Here are the checked 5 GB and 10 GB data-only prices for 30 days.

Prices checked 1 October 2026. Horizon includes instant support and free hotspot sharing; current prices and availability are on the linked plan pages.

Matched fixed-data prices

  • Horizon: 5 GB / 30 days €2.68; 10 GB / 30 days €5.16.
  • Saily: 5 GB / 30 days €10.49; 10 GB / 30 days €16.99.
  • Nomad: 5 GB / 30 days €10.97; 10 GB / 30 days €14.04.
  • Airalo: 5 GB / 30 days €11.00; 10 GB / 30 days €17.50.
  • Ubigi: no 5 GB / 30-day plan; 10 GB / 30 days €11.00.

Horizon has the lowest price among the fixed-data offers above for both allowances. At 5 GB / 30 days, Saily's €10.49 is the next-lowest price, €7.81 above Horizon's €2.68 (€10.49 minus €2.68). At 10 GB / 30 days, Ubigi's €11.00 is next, €5.84 above Horizon's €5.16 (€11.00 minus €5.16). This is a comparison of the displayed package totals; it does not establish better signal or identical coverage.

Who still needs a travel eSIM in Hungary

Hungary is in the EU, so roam-like-at-home rules apply to EU and EEA SIMs, subject to your operator's fair-use limit; some bundles include less data abroad. A travel eSIM is more likely to help if:

  • you have a UK SIM: UK operators are no longer bound by EU roaming rules, and many UK plans charge a daily fee for EU use or include it only on certain tariffs;
  • you live outside the EU and EEA, for example in Serbia and the rest of the Western Balkans, Turkey, the Middle East or North America, so roaming depends on your operator's tariff;
  • your EU plan's roaming allowance is smaller than the data you need.

Short visits: 7-day plans

Horizon's 5 GB for 7 days costs €2.49, 19 cents less than the 30-day plan, and 10 GB for 7 days costs €5.16, the same as the 30-day plan. Airalo's 7-day plans cost €10.50 for 5 GB and €16.50 for 10 GB, and Ubigi lists 10 GB for 7 days at €9.00. Saily and Nomad listed no fixed 5 GB or 10 GB plan shorter than 30 days.

Larger allowances

At 20 GB / 30 days, Horizon lists €10.15, against €17.55 at Nomad, €28.49 at Saily and €29.00 at Airalo; Ubigi listed no 20 GB plan. Horizon's 50 GB for 180 days costs €25.10; the 30-day 50 GB plans cost €34.00 at Ubigi, €35.50 at Airalo and €39.48 at Nomad.

The order changes for unlimited data: Horizon has no unlimited Hungary plan, while Saily, Airalo, Nomad, Ubigi and Holafly list unlimited plans with their own fair-use terms.

Budapest, the baths and Lake Balaton

In Budapest, accommodation Wi-Fi can take large downloads while mobile data covers maps, tickets and messages. Before a day at one of the city's thermal baths, save tickets and directions offline and keep the phone in a locker or a waterproof pouch; steam and splashes are a risk for any phone.

In the Christmas-market season, usually mid-November through December, evenings outdoors mean photos, video and cold batteries, so carry a power bank and check this year's dates with the organisers.

At Lake Balaton, south-west of Budapest, country coverage is not a guarantee of signal on every beach path or boat, so download maps before long summer rides.

Published networks for Hungary

Horizon's Hungary plans list Yettel Hungary and One Hungary. Nomad names Vodafone and Yettel Hungary, Holafly Yettel Hungary and Vodafone Hungary, and Ubigi Yettel. Airalo lists Vodafone and says its package uses the Telenor and Vodafone networks; in Hungary those networks now trade as Yettel and One. Saily's page names no network. These are provider-published network details, not field tests of a street, bath or lakeside town.

Hotspot and unlimited data are separate questions

All Horizon plans include free hotspot sharing. A laptop or tablet on your hotspot uses the same purchased allowance, so pause background updates to save travel data.

Holafly's Hungary product page published a 7-day unlimited plan at US$27.50 in its USD duration table and specifies 1 GB per day for hotspot sharing. That is a different allowance and duration from the fixed 30-day offers above, so we do not calculate a saving against it. Unlimited handset data may suit heavy phone use; it does not always mean unlimited tethering, so check the hotspot terms.

Budapest, Vienna and Prague on one trip

A Hungary plan works only in Hungary. Horizon's Europe plan lists Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia in one shared allowance: 5 GB / 30 days at €3.72 or 10 GB / 30 days at €7.27. Separate 5 GB / 30-day plans for Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic would cost €2.68 + €2.90 + €2.60 = €8.18 for three separate allowances (15 GB in total, capped at 5 GB per country), €0.91 more than one shared 10 GB Europe plan. If nearly all your time is in Budapest, the Hungary plan alone costs less.

For December, see our Christmas market dates in Germany, Vienna and Prague; for longer routes, our Europe comparison.

Crossing into Serbia

Continuing into Serbia, towards Novi Sad or Belgrade, leaves the EU. EU roaming rules do not cover Serbia, so an EU plan's home-price roaming does not automatically apply there. Neither Horizon's Hungary plan nor its Europe plan lists Serbia. Add a Serbia plan, 5 GB for 30 days at €2.94, or compare the Balkans plan, which lists Serbia but not Hungary.

Instant support with your Horizon plan

Horizon includes instant support for setup and connection questions. Use Horizon support if you need help installing the eSIM, selecting it for mobile data or understanding the plan before you travel.

Before buying, check device compatibility and that your phone is unlocked. Install with a stable internet connection, follow the plan's activation instructions, and review the live Hungary plans for the current price and coverage.

How the prices were checked

This is a Horizon-authored comparison. Research date: 1 October 2026. Editorial owner: Lurian Kasumaj. Fixed-plan prices are public quotes from the providers' own product pages, with the same total data and 30-day validity unless stated, in EUR (Nomad and Ubigi with their currency selectors set to EUR; Nomad's page showed US dollars by default for our connection). Holafly's unlimited plan is quoted from its USD duration table, without conversion. No sale label was shown on any quoted plan.

Account rewards such as Saily credits, subscriptions, free trials, affiliate coupons and first-order discounts are excluded. Every provider name in the comparison links to its source. Prices can change after this check; the linked product page and checkout take precedence. This research compares published offers and features, not measured network performance or support response times.
