Choose Mongolia eSIM data for an Ulaanbaatar stay, a journey toward Kharkhorin or an arranged Gobi or western Mongolia visit. Size the allowance for updates made when connected, and prepare offline navigation and host instructions for the long gaps between settlements.
Ulaanbaatar concentrates offices, accommodation and travel connections in a broad urban area. Beyond it, a journey can run across open steppe, into the Gobi or toward the Altai, with camps and small settlements a long way apart. A ger camp may have a named booking without a conventional street address, and a straight line on a map is not a driving route. Agree the pickup and overnight location with your organiser before departure. Reception can differ substantially between the capital, a provincial town and the country between them.

Install over Wi-Fi before flying, using an unlocked phone with eSIM support. Chinggis Khaan International Airport is at Khushig Valley outside Ulaanbaatar; confirm that location with your driver rather than using Buyant-Ukhaa airport as the pickup pin. On reaching Mongolia, select Horizon for mobile data and enable roaming for that line, with automatic home-data switching off. Installing the profile does not start the validity period; it starts when the eSIM first connects to a supported network in Mongolia. The plan supplies data-only service, and a town listing does not establish reception at an isolated camp.

Pick the profile closest to your trip. The estimate assumes normal use — maps, messaging, photos, a short call home.
As a rule of thumb, a 3–4 day city break runs on about 1–3 GB, a one-week trip on 3–5 GB, a two-week multi-country tour on 8–12 GB, and working on the road takes about 1 GB a day, so 15 GB or more for two weeks.
In total, a 3 GB data allowance covers roughly 1,000 shared photos, 50 hours of social media and browsing, 8.8 hours of video calls, 38 hours of music streaming, or about 600 hours of maps and navigation. Messaging apps barely use data.
Ulaanbaatar · City guide
Ulaanbaatar sits in the Tuul River valley, with Sükhbaatar Square as a central landmark and accommodation extending well beyond it. A work meeting and an organised-tour pickup may use entirely different districts. Save the actual entrances, the driver and the time agreed for leaving the city, especially when an early departure begins a long road stage.
Ulaanbaatar eSIM — set up before you flyKharkhorin · City guide
Kharkhorin is associated with the site of historic Karakorum and Erdene Zuu monastery. A booking described as an Orkhon Valley stay may still be well beyond town, so get the camp location and approach from the host. Download the relevant map and instructions before continuing; a connection in Kharkhorin does not establish service at the next overnight stop.
Kharkhorin eSIM — set up before you flyDalanzadgad · City guide
Dalanzadgad is a town base for journeys into the southern Gobi. Yolyn Am, the dunes around Khongoryn Els and other desert stops are separate excursions, not points joined by an urban network of services. Confirm the driver, camp sequence and return plan in advance, and use town time to send updates before travelling beyond mobile reception.
Dalanzadgad eSIM — set up before you flyÖlgii · City guide
Ölgii is the centre of Bayan-Ölgii in western Mongolia, where a visit may involve local family contacts or a guide for travel into the Altai. Obtain the actual receiving location and any required permissions for the route. Mountains, distance and border areas call for separate preparation; the presence of a town on the itinerary is no assurance of reception further out.
Ölgii eSIM — set up before you flyWhy Horizon
A long itinerary does not mean a mobile connection will be present for every day of it. Choose validity for the whole journey, while estimating how much data you will use for city appointments, camp updates and uploads when reception returns. Horizon fixed-data plans have no throttling. Horizon includes free personal hotspot sharing on compatible devices for your Mongolia journey, so laptop syncing counts against the same balance as phone use. Download entertainment and large maps before the remote stage, and arrange coverage separately for China, Russia or any transit stay outside Mongolia.

Use Chinggis Khaan International Airport at Khushig Valley if that is the airport on your ticket. It is outside the city and distinct from Buyant-Ukhaa airport, the former main international gateway. Send the actual booking to your driver to avoid an outdated map pin.
No. An isolated camp can be beyond mobile reception even when there is service in the nearest town. Ask the organiser about the exact location and their communication arrangements, and keep the camp sequence and pickup instructions offline.
Do not make the journey depend on a live connection. Save the route agreed with your driver and the overnight locations, obtain current local advice, and use the communication arrangements appropriate to the remote itinerary rather than relying on a phone signal.
A Mongolia country plan does not cover either neighbour. Check the exact additional destination in another offer before crossing, and confirm border access and permissions separately; a data subscription has no bearing on whether the route is open to you.
Keep the host's camp location, the agreed road approach, the pickup time and the return arrangement. A town map or a booking labelled Orkhon Valley can be too broad to identify an individual camp once you leave available reception.
For laptop work in Ulaanbaatar, Horizon includes free personal hotspot sharing on compatible devices. Choose the allowance with cloud documents and background syncing in mind, and verify the connection where you will work before arranging a meeting that needs continuous access.
Agree with your host or guide when an update is expected and what happens if it is delayed. Save the destination and route information in Ölgii, since valleys and remote Altai locations may have no mobile reception for a substantial part of the journey.
No. Horizon fixed-data plans have no throttling. There is no daily limit that slows you down, so you can use your whole plan in one day if you need to. Your speed depends on the local network, your signal and how busy the network is. When your data allowance is used up, the plan stops rather than slowing down.
