Six eSIM providers compared for the Balkans: price, borders and support
Popular Balkans plans

For a 14-day Albania–Montenegro–Croatia trip with about 10 GB and hotspot, Horizon’s Balkans 10 GB / 30-day plan costs €11.28. Adding Kosovo 3 GB / 15 days makes the full price €19.77. These are separate allowances and expiry windows. For one regional allowance that includes Kosovo, compare Saily and OvoSIM below.

Horizon update, 1 November 2026: Europe + Kosovo includes Kosovo, Albania, Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia, Croatia, Hungary, Germany and Austria on one shared allowance. 10 GB / 30 days costs €17.79; 3 GB / 15 days costs €8.19. It is a separate choice from the Balkans package, which still excludes Kosovo. A separate Kosovo purchase remains an option when using that Balkans package; it is no longer the only Horizon approach to this route. Check every stop on the live list.

Horizon prices and related totals updated on 14 October 2026. Other providers’ quotes retain the research dates shown below.

Horizon plans include free hotspot from the purchased data pool. Horizon fixed-data plans have no throttling. Validity starts on the first connection to a supported network; there is no first-use deadline. Human support is available 24/7 in all languages, with guaranteed instant replies. Full refunds are available on request, used or unused, with no time limit. An instant reply does not promise instant resolution.

Matched fixed-data prices

Provider5 GB / 30 days10 GB / 30 days
Horizon€5.73€11.28
OvoSIM€18.99€32.99
Nomad€22.31€34.80
Airalo Europe€18.00€28.50
Saily€17.99€29.49

All EUR table prices buy a total allowance for 30 days. Coupons, partner discounts and future cashback are excluded. A lower price does not establish better reception or identical coverage. OvoSIM labels the quoted price as a public deal.

Other checked offers

MobiMatter / Sparks Europe and USA lists US$12.49 for 12 GB / 30 days, with hotspot and Albania, Montenegro and Croatia included. Kosovo is absent. This is a different allowance and currency; compare the actual payment total.

The coverage test: write down every border

Horizon’s Balkans package includes Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey. One purchased allowance is shared across those covered countries. Kosovo and Hungary require another suitable plan.

If your trip includes Kosovo, you can also add a Horizon Kosovo eSIM alongside your Balkans plan. It is a separate purchase with its own allowance; adding it does not extend the regional package’s coverage. Check that your phone can store the profiles you need and select the right data line at the border.

The providers’ regional names hide meaningful differences:

  • Horizon Balkans: 11 countries listed above. Includes Romania, Slovenia and Turkey; add Kosovo separately.
  • OvoSIM Balkans: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia. Kosovo is included; Romania, Slovenia and Turkey are outside this nine-country package.
  • Nomad Balkans: Horizon’s 11-country list plus Hungary. Useful for a route through Hungary; Kosovo is outside the listed package.
  • Airalo Europe: 41 countries, including all 11 in Horizon’s Balkans list. Broader European coverage; Kosovo was absent from the checked list.
  • Saily Balkans: The same nine countries listed for OvoSIM above. Includes Kosovo; check a different plan for Romania, Slovenia or Turkey.
  • Holafly Balkans: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia. Five-country scope; Croatia and Greece are outside this particular regional offer.

These are observations from the linked product pages, not a ranking of signal quality. A larger country count only adds value when those extra countries are on your route. In particular, Airalo’s checked Europe package includes non-EU Balkan countries: do not assume that every product called Europe is limited to the EU.

Three routes, three buying decisions

Ljubljana → Zagreb → Kotor. Slovenia, Croatia and Montenegro are all in Horizon’s package. The 5 GB option is a smaller allowance for maps and messages with Wi-Fi for large uploads; the 10 GB option gives more room for photo sharing. Both compared plans last 30 days. That validity is a deadline for the total allowance, not fresh data every day.

Tirana → Pristina → Skopje. Add the separate Kosovo eSIM if choosing Horizon, and budget for both purchases. OvoSIM and Saily include all three stops in their regional list. Compare that convenience against the combined Horizon checkout total; the regional-only savings above do not include a Kosovo add-on.

Belgrade → Bucharest → Sofia → Istanbul. Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey are all included in Horizon’s 11-country plan. That makes the coverage differences especially relevant: OvoSIM’s checked Balkans package includes Serbia and Bulgaria; it excludes Romania and Turkey.

What a better comparison should tell you

A provider’s starting price can describe a tiny allowance or a short validity. It does not tell you the cost of a month-long 10 GB plan. We read OvoSIM’s Balkans comparison, then checked current product pages directly for the matched allowance and duration shown here. The result is a price comparison you can repeat, with coverage exceptions visible beside it.

We have not timed support queues, driven every route or performed controlled network-speed tests. Horizon’s case here is the documented price of its regional allowance, instant support and the route coverage described above. Another provider may be the better fit if its included countries or unlimited allowance remove a problem on your particular trip.

Before a border crossing

Download your onward route while connected, keep the eSIM installed, and follow its activation instructions. A network change can take time, and tunnels, mountains and ferries can interrupt signal even in an included country. Coverage on land does not promise a connection at sea. If the next stop is Kosovo, switch mobile data to the separate Kosovo line; keep data roaming disabled on your home line unless you intend to use your carrier’s roaming.

For a smaller country-only trip, check the relevant country plan before buying a regional bundle. For a wider journey west or north, compare the Europe provider guide.

How Holafly’s unlimited option compares

Holafly’s Balkans product page published a 7-day unlimited plan at US$36.50 in its USD duration table. That is a different allowance, duration and currency from the fixed 30-day EUR offers above, so we do not calculate a percentage saving against it. Check the selected currency and trip length before checkout.

The page specifies 1 GB per day for hotspot sharing, and says network fair-use measures can temporarily reduce speed. Unlimited handset data may suit heavy phone use; it does not mean unlimited tethering or the same speed in every situation. Horizon’s fixed plans support hotspot using the purchased data pool.

Instant support with your Horizon plan

Horizon includes instant support for setup and connection questions. Use Horizon support if you need help installing the eSIM, selecting it for mobile data or understanding the plan before you travel. Keep your order details handy so the team can help with the right purchase.

Before buying, check device compatibility and that your phone is unlocked. Install with a stable internet connection, follow the plan’s activation instructions, and review the live Balkans plans for the current price and coverage.

How the prices were checked

This is a Horizon-authored comparison. Research date: 13 October 2026. Editorial owner: Lurian Kasumaj. Fixed-plan prices are public EUR quotes from the providers’ own product pages, with 5 GB or 10 GB total data and 30-day validity. Public sale prices are included where labelled. Account rewards, subscriptions, affiliate coupons and first-order discounts are excluded. Regional country lists can differ even when allowance and validity match.

Every provider name in the comparison links to its source. Holafly’s separately reported USD quote is left in its published currency, without an exchange-rate conversion. Prices can change after this check; the linked product page and checkout take precedence. This research compares published offers and features, not measured network performance or support response times.
