Home for Christmas: eSIM prices for Kosovo, the Balkans and Turkey compared
Popular Europe + Kosovo plans

Going home for Christmas or New Year on a route that includes Kosovo? Choose Europe + Kosovo: it puts Kosovo, Albania, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Turkey on one shared allowance. Horizon's Balkans plan does not include Kosovo. On 3 November 2026, Europe + Kosovo cost €8.19 for 3 GB over 15 days, €17.79 for 10 GB over 30 days and €37.19 for 25 GB over 30 days.

Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, the United Kingdom, France and Sweden are on the Europe + Kosovo list too, which helps on a stopover or a long drive home. The United States is not on it: if you fly from America, the plan is for the European part of the journey. Horizon's World plan lists the United States and all of these destinations, at €24.19 for 10 GB over 30 days.

This is a Horizon-authored comparison, editorial owner Lurian Kasumaj. We checked Airalo, Saily, Holafly and Ubigi's Europe Extended on their own pages on 3 November 2026, in euros, at three common sizes for a holiday at home: about 3 GB, 10 GB and 20 GB. Europe + Kosovo and Ubigi's Europe Extended come in 25 GB rather than 20 GB, so the last column compares 25 GB with 20 GB.

Airalo Europe (Eurolink)Turkey, not Kosovo€10.50 (7 days)€29.00€44.50 (20 GB)

The table compares the total price of one allowance. It does not compare networks, speed or reception, which depend on the local network and your location.

Holafly had no plan with Kosovo when we checked: its Kosovo page said the destination was currently unavailable. Its Balkans plan lists Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia, but not Kosovo or Turkey, and its Europe plan lists none of these destinations. Holafly sells unlimited data by the day: its Balkans plan cost €34.90 for 7 days, €61.50 for 15 days and €120.50 for 30 days. A 15-day range over Christmas showed the same €61.50.

Airalo's global Discover plan lists Kosovo and Turkey but not Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its 3 GB for 30 days cost €22.50.

What the differences mean

For the same 10 GB over 30 days, the checked difference was €17.21 against Ubigi (€35.00 − €17.79). Saily's Balkans plan cost €11.70 more and leaves out Turkey; Saily's Europe plan lists Turkey but none of the other destinations in this guide, and its Kosovo plan cost €30.49. Airalo's Kosovo plan cost €14.71 more and covers Kosovo alone.

For about 3 GB, Ubigi charged €7.81 more for the same 15 days. Saily's €11.49 buys 30 days instead of 15, which suits a longer stay with light use. The Airalo 3 GB plans in the table last 7 days.

At the top, Horizon's 25 GB cost €37.19 and Ubigi's 25 GB cost €55.00. Saily's and Airalo's 20 GB plans cost between €43.49 and €45.50, for 5 GB less data.

Two stops show the bigger gap. Say you spend Christmas in Prishtina and New Year in Tirana or Istanbul. Europe + Kosovo lists both, so one plan of 10 GB for 30 days at €17.79 is enough. Airalo's Europe plan (Eurolink) leaves out Kosovo, so Kosovo needs its own plan: 10 GB in Kosovo (€32.50) plus 3 GB on Eurolink for 7 days (€10.50) came to €43.00, as two separate allowances. Airalo's global Discover plan lists Kosovo, Albania and Turkey on one allowance, but its 10 GB plan cost €53.00, for 180 days. Saily's Balkans plan lists Kosovo and Albania, but Istanbul would need a second plan.

Which Horizon plan fits your trip home

Compare Europe + Kosovo first for any route with Kosovo, even Kosovo alone. On 3 November 2026 its 10 GB / 30-day plan cost €0.40 less than the Kosovo plan (€18.19), and its 3 GB / 15-day plan €0.30 less (€8.49). If Kosovo is not on your route, a plan with a shorter country list costs less:

Your tripPlan10 GB, 30 days
Kosovo, with or without other stopsEurope + Kosovo€17.79
Several of the other destinations, Kosovo excludedBalkans€11.28
Turkey onlyTurkey€3.92
Serbia onlySerbia€5.69
Montenegro onlyMontenegro€6.47
Albania onlyAlbania€6.61
North Macedonia onlyNorth Macedonia€9.35
Bosnia and Herzegovina onlyBosnia and Herzegovina€11.18

From your home country

None of these destinations is in the European Union, so the EU's roam-like-at-home rules do not reach them, even on a German, Austrian, Italian, French or Swedish contract. Swiss, UK and US contracts set their own roaming prices. Check what your own tariff charges there before you travel.

If you live in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, the United Kingdom, France or Sweden, your home country is on the Europe + Kosovo list as well, which changes one habit. Install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi, but keep the Horizon line switched off until you leave: data used on it at home would start the plan before the trip. Flying from the United States, switch it on at your European stopover instead.

Christmas dates and validity

A 15-day plan first used on 20 December lasts until around 4 January. Staying for Orthodox Christmas on 7 January, or into mid-January? Choose 30 days. Europe + Kosovo sells 3 GB for 15 days and 1 GB, 10 GB or 25 GB for 30 days; 10 GB also comes as a 7-day plan at €16.29.

How much data for the holidays

  • 3 GB: messages, maps and some photos when family Wi-Fi covers the rest.
  • 10 GB: daily video calls and photo sharing over two to four weeks.
  • 25 GB: a laptop or children's tablets on hotspot, or a month of heavy use.

Hotspot sharing is free on every Horizon plan. The Balkans data guide explains the sizes in more detail.

Before you fly

  1. Check your phone on the supported devices page and make sure it is unlocked.
  2. Install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi with the installation guide, then keep the line switched off.
  3. When you arrive, switch the Horizon line on, choose it for mobile data and turn on data roaming for that line only.
  4. Keep your home SIM for calls and bank text messages, and turn off data roaming on it to avoid charges from your home carrier.

Validity does not start until your eSIM first connects to a supported mobile network at a covered destination. There is no first-use deadline, so buying in November for a December trip is fine. Horizon plans are data-only: WhatsApp and Viber calls use your data allowance.

What else differs

Saily's pages state a 180-day activation period, after which an unused plan starts by itself; Horizon has no first-use deadline. Holafly sells unlimited data by the day rather than a fixed allowance. Ubigi also sells annual Europe Extended plans, paid upfront: 2 GB a month for 12 months at €19.00, or 5 GB a month at €44.00. They can suit light users who go home several times a year; for one trip with more data, compare the one-off plans above.

Horizon fixed-data plans have no throttling. Horizon offers 24/7 human support in all languages, with guaranteed instant replies. We always refund the full amount you paid when you request it, whether your eSIM is unused, partly used or fully used. There is no time limit for requesting a refund. See the refund policy.

Short answers

Does Horizon's Balkans plan include Kosovo? No. It lists Albania, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Turkey among its destinations, but not Kosovo. For a route with Kosovo, compare Europe + Kosovo.

Is Europe + Kosovo worth it if I only visit Kosovo? On 3 November 2026 it cost €17.79 for 10 GB over 30 days, against €18.19 for the Kosovo plan of the same size.

Can I buy now for a trip in December? Yes. There is no first-use deadline. Keep the line switched off at home so the plan does not start before you travel.

Does the plan come with a phone number? No. Horizon plans are data-only, so keep your home SIM for calls and texts.

Which plan fits a trip to Turkey only? The Turkey plan: 10 GB for 30 days cost €3.92 on the same day.

Sources and method

Prices were read on 3 November 2026 between 13:36 and 13:56 UTC, from a connection in Kosovo, on each provider's own pages linked above. Saily showed euros. For Ubigi and Airalo we selected euros in each site's currency setting (the Ubigi link above carries that setting). Holafly's euro totals come from its date picker, because its price table lists US dollars. Coupons, credits, subscriptions and first-order discounts are excluded, and no sale prices were shown. Horizon prices come from its live catalogue on the same day. We did not test speed, reception or support. Prices and country lists change, so check the live pages before you buy.
